After Effects Help

Sorry if this is getting too old but my eyes hurt from looking at all those posts...I just need a link or post or something to help me use After effects(I just got my hands on it).I found some interesting posts about effects like film strips but this is too advanced for me. Is there something that will get me going??? I don't need a particular effect right now I just want to get use to it from basis. Any help would be apreciated.

yeah....your not going to find much help when you are obviously using priated software. Go buy a book on after effects at a bookstore. Those are pretty good as far as tutorials go. AE isn't what i would call very user friendly to the average person. No one is going to really be able to explain AE to you. There is piles of things to learn about how to use that program.

Yeah.

The way I learned AE went like

Film Club director: "We need some CG shots for our upcoming movie. Do them. Here's the G5, AE, Final Cut Pro."
Me: "OMGWTF."

I guess what I'm trying to get at here is that the best way to learn AE, besides reading the manual, is experimentation.

Thanks a lot all of you guys.
I just needed some guidelines to get the picture...
I ll try the guide ZARXRAX gave me. With a first glance I think it is the perfect thing to get me started. Then maybe I ll get a book of some sort.

(Did you consider to put this file on the org's Guieds section??? a lot of people would be interested even for an introduction to the program....I think)
