Post by sailorsaturnbringerofdeat » Fri Jan 23, 2004 11:32 am

I've made a few AMV's on windows movie maker but i see ones that have much better effects and i was wondering what is the best soft/hardware to use to make great AMV's.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

For getting clean source footage, there's Smartripper, DVD2AVI, and AVIsynth.

For editing, Avid Xpress >>> Premiere. I dunno about Premiere Pro.

For compression, I recommend DivX Pro, but only if you turn off b-frames. Most people seem to recommend XviD, but I've never gotten it to look better than DivX (assuming equal bitrate and options), and it's harder to use and a lot more buggy as well (encoding itself upside-down, motion-search echoing artifacts, magentafication, etc.)

Oh, one more thing:

Since video editing uses mostly integer math and very few floating-point calculations, this is one area where the Pentium 4 is better than the Athlons. Even dwchang will agree with me on this.
