Here's the thing. Yes, most anime sucks. So does most American TV, most books... most of everything. No, really. Think about it; it's true everywhere.
There's a quote by a science fiction author, Theodore Sturgeon (shoot me if I get that wrong), that's often paraphrased as "Sturgeon's Law": "Sure, 90% of SF is crud, but that's because 90% of everything is crud."
Do I care if companies are churning out copies of copies and marketing crap to kids? Actually, no. Doesn't affect me a bit. I just find that 1 in 10 or 1 in 100 that's worth watching.
Does it mean that EVERY anime is crap? 'Course not. Just as one band that drives me crazy on the radio doesn't mean that all music sucks.
That said, I could care less what J. Random Flamer says, and I'd bet everyone screaming at him is giving him exactly what he wants. It's called trolling.
I'm done.

"Anime does NOT suck.
I will stick with that notion as well. It does not suck as a whole idea, but certain anime shows DO suck. Just as in any multi genre form of entertainment, there is always something great, for example movies. You have your Close encounters of the third Kind, an amazing movie that was ahead of its time and is still considered a masterpiece, and on the opposite end you have "the night the dead walked", or some other B movie shit. Now just because the B movie sucked, does this automatically mean all movies suck? If one were truly so ignorant, they would miss out on so many great movies of high quality and great recognition. The same applies to anime. Sure, I am just as much a fan of simpler animes like Gunsmith Cats or Tenchi Muyo, with girls, guns, huge eyes, and not so much plot, but even if you are not fans of those, there is a newly rising tide of high quality animes with great stories, excellent animation, and very much normal sized eyes. Such examples are Serial Experiments:Lain, Haibane Renmei, Last exile, Neia7, Boogiepop Phantom, millenium Actress...I could go on but this I feel is sufficient. Notice something about them all. Not a single one of them falls into a repetitive cliche of what is widely believed to define anime. Rarely if ever do you see a comically busty overbearing woman, a repeating monster of the day plotline, or the usual super deformations and caricature faces. No embarassment lines or anything other than would be seen in any realisticly designed world. These animes all have really great stories and plots as well, often continuous with little diversion, and not overly long. They make you think, they create emotion in the viewer, and they truly show to what great heights anime has come. Damn right I am an anime fan, not just of these realistic animes, but of the silly crazy overdone ones that you hate so much, but that is my personal opinion and not yours. But please, before you go to such a low of taking all anime down because of a few bad shows, please consider those realistic ones that truly expand the boundaries of the genre and give anime a new lease on life. There truly is something for everyone, and to say you hate it all without these considerations is unthinkable to me. In conclusion, Ill just remind you that there are hundreds of shows that fit the anime mold, and its really dependent on the budget, the director, and the animators as to whether an anime is going to fit your description, or rise above it like a Phoenix from the ashes."

thats true. A widly used Anime Stereotype .. ppl find out i like anime, and its automatically OMG U LIKE POKEMON (which i do but has nothing to do with anything), or OMG u like Dragonball? .. the only anime's that they have seen are the ones like the afore mentioned. Its kinda sad that i have to live with these Uncultured Fucks day in and day out.

Right now you all need to stop whining. Who cares if this guy isn't an anime fan? The rest of you are, and it's not like his rant is going to change what you think. Why bother wasting time arguing about it?J-0080 wrote:RIGHT NOW SOMEONE THINKSThe Hitokiri Battousai wrote:I can understand though if thats the only anime he saw.Rei Chan wrote: I found out that the only animes he's seen was Dragonball Z...
