Actually, I don't believe I know a single anime fan in real life that watches dubs. On the other hand, I know NUMOROUS that watch subs...

Meh, there's only four and none that I know, so I wouldn't get it - but I'm glad to see a little recognition for this end of the business.

As in watching dubs ONLY and never subs?

Goldenboy has a pretty good dub overall, but Golden Boy himself is right on the money. If any other voice actor did the job, he would have been about half as funny, at best. The sub is unwatchable in comparison, which is rare.

As far as this stupid sub/dub thing is concerned, A lot of people do watch subbed anime, but it doesnt mean they hate dubbed anime like you do. I'm personally 50/50 on this. I used to watch dubbed anime only but after a few years I learned that there are definitely unique positive aspects for both dubbed and subbed.

The only bad thing I can say about dubbed anime is that it may contain annoying voices and bad voice acting. However, I understand that it is a lot easier to detect bad acting in English, bad voice acting in Japanese is hard to detect because for all I know, it might be appropriate for a given part in Japanese, whereas it would sound bad in english. An example of this is Kitsune's Southern Accent in Love Hina. That was awful. I thought it didnt work, my friends all independently dissaproved it right away, and I've heard it specifically mentioned on this site a few times (usually as an example of how bad Love Hina's dub is).

The irony is that in the original version of Love Hina's Kitsune had an accent that was basically the Japanese equivalent of the southern accent (very informal, folksy). The japanese version worked really great, the dub flopped. In many cases its just the two languages having problems with the transition. This impacts subtitles as well, such as explaining long stories and background information about Japan. These explainations are often left out of the dub because Jokes aimed at Japanese only audiences are changed to Jokes with American pop culture elements and american humor.

I will usually only watch subs, but all my friends who watch anime are ADAMANT that it should be watched in the dub, but it seems that none of them can keep up with the subs

It's rather funny if we do watch them in subs, for instance: We watched Excel Saga and I'll laugh, but I'll be the only one who does 'cause no-one else is bothering to read the subtitles

Actually I remember one guy that preferred dubs... he had a vision problem and it was hard for him to watch subs. He still watched subs though... just preferred dubs.

Maybe It's just the part of the country I live in
