Does the phrase, "so it comes to America" mean anything to you?

Anime ain't goin' nowhere without dubs, and that is that...
Sorry to burst ur bubble, bot the very vast majority of anime fans only or mostly watch it Subbed. And it is going everywhere even without dubbs :P
Back in the day [before dvds], ever wonder why dubbed anime tapes were CHEAPER than subtitled tapes?

Dubs are obviously more expensive than subs to make [common sense, what's more expensive to hire? VAs vs. 1 translator?]

If you don't know how business works, then you won't know why more people want dubs.

Actually some anime dvds [us manga corps and adv films] have their "making of this anime" extra on them. [which I applaud]

I think I know what's going on with them with just that...

[and yes, I think the VA's really are crazy people]

I enjoy anime much more in DUB. I will watch one in SUB once or twice just to see if i am missing anything important that they screwed up, But generally i dont care what everyone else does, i enjoy watching the show and not reading. If i want to read or find out deeper meanings/storylines to anime i'll turn to my manga. Other wise i just want to watch a good show. I always see people complaining about the sound of voices - like auska, and naru. I dont understand it - i dont find anything wrong with these voices. But thats just me :D
The content in my signature is directly proportional to my coolness.

I completly agree: If I'm watching a sub, I'm too busy reading sometimes and I might miss some small detail that's crucial to explaining what's going on, so I just watch the dubs first just to enjoy the show, and then go back to the subs to catch the differences. :)

I'd like to get it but my funds are a bit scarce right now.

I wonder if I can trade Kyle a copy of the NES Project and a few of my amvs on dvd for it. :P

Here's a review of the dub club by Chris Beveridge himself from anime on dvd.

Meh... it sounds like the guy needs to smooth out some rough edges. I don't know any of these VAs either... hopefully, though, people will buy it and he'll continue to do this. He should try to interview some of the Bebop people, though--a lot of people like that dub, so he'll have more of a market, thereby giving him more money to do even better jobs with future interview DVDs...

As far as the DVD goes, I'd definitely watch it if my anime club got it, (and I bet I'd enjoy it alot) but otherwise I wouldnt buy it. Not really because of the money, just because it would take 5 minutes to order it. : P

Well, I dont really understand the "reading is a pain in the ass" arguement. Maybe its because I'm a 4th year college student and I've been a high school level reader since 5th grade, but seriously, many (if not most) people can make similar claims. I read comfortably (for information absorbtion) at speaking speed. Thats a very average reading speed, believe me. Even with that, I rarely miss a subtitle, and if I do, I go back and pause. When I saw crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon years ago, I had no experience watching a film with subtitles. And yet, 3 months after I saw it, I actually remembered lines in the film being spoken in English! Thats because after about 5 minutes my brain had adapted and I wasnt even conscious that I was reading subtitles anymore.

Amen to that!!! Dubs are easier to understand and such, but subs are sorta the true way to go. I'm trying to leanr Japanese, so I'm watching more sub than dub right now, but I'll take either one. Fansubs, obviously are subbed, and that's about half the anime you find on the internet. There's one place I know of, not saying the name, that does a sub and dub encode into one file. AVI or MKV extensions with OGG dual audio. It's like a small version of a DVD... I won't dive into this subject anymore because of ph34r of getting in trouble.

Dub = get a better hold on the story and characters
Sub = get a better understanding of some of the things that go on in the series.

I, myself, have trouble reading subs and watching the anime at the same time. So that's why I watch one, then the other.

x2

Thats true, and I would like to add that sometimes the sub is just more fun/entertaining than the dub (i.e. Love Hina, Ranma 1/2 (better than the good dub job), Full Metal Panic (better than the great dub job)).

As discussed earlier, sometimes dubs can be more fun (Goldenboy, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, etc.). This is why its always a good idea to try both, at least for an episode.

On another point, more than half of fansubbed anime is subbed. I mean its called fansub for a reason ^ ^. In my experience downloading (from Kazaa and Bittorrent) anime in general it is subbed about 98% of the time.

Oh and about VHS anime being cheaper dubbed... REALLY?! Man I wish I noticed that, back in the day. : )
Dubs are easily more expensive to produce so why would they be cheaper? Less demand. Right on the money Omni.
