Hrm... Kei Kusanagi from Onegai Teacher. Everyone who meets him ends up liking him even if they don't at first.
I laughed when I saw this one, because the reason I didnt like OT was because Kei was such an introvert, and frankly, socially pathetic, which is normally fine (Rei from Eva is my favorite characters, just for starters). What I didnt like is that despite his lack of charisma, he some how made every girl in the ENTIRE show (minus Kaede) sexually interested in him.
Love Hina was nearly identical, in fact OT even looks a little like Love Hina (I'm sure this is no accident). This flaw bothered me with Keitaro as well, but Keitaro had to deal with some (well, two, three if you count his aunt) serious biatches. Just the fact that he convincingly befriended Naru helped me forget just how blatantly shonen Love Hina was.

Ok, back on topic.

1: Best based on strength
Well, I guess I would have to name any character from DBZ. I get the impression that if one character seemingly maxed out, another would surpass them, and so on and so on. Not to pick on DBZ, a lot of animes unfortunately do this. In anime, strength and abilities are exaggerated more than everywhere else. Therefore, the question of strength is a scientific question in an unscientific category, there should be a single right answer, but if you wait around another 5 minutes, there will be a NEW right answer. Meanwhile, the other questions are UNSCIENTIFIC and purely opinion based, so those are easy to answer.

Well anyway, I'll officially say Ryoga from Ranma 1/2. Inuyasha, Sanosuke (from Kenshin) and various DBZ characters, were near picks. I picked Ryoga narrowly over Sanosuke because both of these characters rely more heavily on their strength (and have a lot of it) than all the other characters. Ryoga's attacks are clumsier (often relying on indirect hits from rocks and shrapnel), so therefore he narrowly edges out the skilled Sanosuke for reliance on strength.

2:Based on intelligence/wisdom
Naraku. There are a lot of smart heroes, but smart villains are rarer. He's not afraid of being thought of as a coward, hes unprovocable, he IS a coward, never soiling his hands even when he becomes powerful enough to take chances. He sets up clever traps, some of which are impressively complex and well planned out. Hes the only character in the show who doesnt repeat information 50 times. (although thats really just a pacing problem between the anime and manga rearing its head).

3:Based on charisma
Spike Spiegel is a little charismatic; but timelessly hip is a better word for him I think. Charisma should be measured in how the user uses it, to negotiate, to befriend, to amuse. Spike has an amusing Charisma. Griffith had a kind of, well, gay, charisma, but he had a lot of it.
Onizuka had some Charisma as well, but he did his share of whining (so did Spike now that I think about it). Asuka had a mean type of charisma, and Miroku had a perverted yet strangely wise charisma.

After all that consideration, I think my vote has to go to Kaji from Eva. He had an amusing charisma and was definitely charming. He was too charming at first and I hated him for it. He was a double agent and he only made it as far as he did because of skillful (non-covert) espionage. He had to get out of a few deadly situations with his slick demeanor, and at one point he convinced the unstable and emotional Shinji to change his mind and return to NERV, under the pressure of an impending apocalypse (he had just watched units 00 and 02 be defeated by the 14th angel (I think). He didnt even use this fact to convince Shinji, because with an unstable kid like that the fate of mankind may have little meaning.

4:Based on voice (dubbed, preferably)
So many good voices, subbed and dubbed.

Subbed:
Tie: Alucard (Joji Nakamura?) and Folken (his voice sounds almost identical to Alucard in the Subs but I know they're different guys.

Dubbed:
The Golden Boy: Oe Kintaro
also:
Gene Starwind
Spike (David Lucas)
Vash the Stampede
Ayanami Rei (Amanda Winn-Lee)

5:Based on overall coolness and appeal.

Ah the easiest one. Definitely Spike Spiegel.

Yeah, I just couldn't think of anything else at the time :/. Now that someone else mentioned it, I'll change mine to Onizuka from GTO, he definitely had a way about him.

Cloud Clone wrote:Um, ok, this is my first topic, so let's see how this turns out. Remember this is OPINION based, so you can't get mad if someone dissagrees with you on something(I've seen it happen before  ) so here are the categories:
I haven't seen as many animes as most people here probably have, just DBZ, Sailor Moon, Fushigi Yuugi, Pokemon, Belle and Sebastian, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, Magic Knights Rayearth, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Spirited Away, Ah My Goddess, Laputa, Angel Sanctuary, Dragon Half, Hellsing, Trigun, VHD and VHD: Bloodlust, I My Me Strawberry Eggs, Legend of Basara, Kodomo no Omocha, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Lupin III, and maybe around 5 others. Hopefully I'll get to watch a lot more pretty soon so I'd be able to give a better list, but I'm going to give you the characters I think are the best out of those series I can remember seeing.
1: Best based on strength
Either D from VHD and VHD: Bloodlust or Alucard from Hellsing.
2:Based on intelligence/wisdom
Mendoza from Mysterious Cities of Gold. He was one smart navigator.

3:Based on charisma

Haku from Spirited away had a lot of charisma.

4:Based on voice (dubbed, preferably)

I liked the dubbed voice of Vash the Stampede in Trigun and Zechs' dubbed voice in Gundam Wing. As for Japanese Voices, I liked Hotohori's voice in Fushigi Yuugi.

5:Based on overall coolness and appeal.

Integra from Hellsing and Spike from Cowboy Bebop. I also liked D from VHD. They're all pretty cool IMO. :)

1: Best based on strength

Physical Strength:
Sanosuke (Rurouni Kenshin), particularly once he learns Anji's Futai no Kiwami
Brolli (DBZ), face it, the guy is psycho strong
SSJ4 Veg/Goku fusion (DBZ - no idea what it's called)
Toguro (YYH), another psychotically strong guy

Multi-faceted strength (including ki, attack power, physical, etc):
Hiei (YYH), physical strength, sword play, ki attacks (flame), and his kokoryuuha (dragon)
Cell (DBZ), he has everyone's attacks plus physical strength and regeneration

2:Based on intelligence/wisdom

Kurama (YYH), sly fox, insanely perfect human, wickedly clever thief
Quatre (GW), definitely a strategist
Ami (Sailor Moon), the 'smart' one of the group, hands down

3:Based on charisma

Kurama (YYH), everyone likes him, even his enemies
Quatre (GW), has the ability to unite the others, even earth
Relena (GW), I may not like her, but she has charisma
Hikaru (MKR), another one that everyone ends up loving

4:Based on voice (dubbed, preferably)

Trowa (GW), I also liked his dub in Escaflowne
Quatre (GW), I liked both the dubbed and Japanese for him
Goku (DBZ), I like the dubbed better than the feminine Japanese version
Vegeta (DBZ), I prefer his Japanese voice
Hiei (YYH), definitely the original Japanese
Kurama (YYH), Japanese voice

5:Based on overall coolness and appeal. (Appeal = attitude)

Hiei (YYH), he can do anything, and I love his attitude
Vegeta (DBZ), annoying at times, but another one with a bad attitude
Raizen (YYH), for a cannibal he's pretty cool ;p
Youko Kurama (YYH), definitely one of the coolest characters I've seen
Shizuru (YYH), no powers, but she has a great attitude I find endearing

Spike- who doesn't want to be him
I can safely say I wouldn't...sure, his life looks cool, but when you consider the fact that, over the course of the series, he's repeatedly shot, punched, kicked, stabbed, etc, is thrown from a church window, hurled out of a train car (if we count the movie as well...can't forget that oh so delightful looking shot through the chest)

and, the piece de resistance
watching the woman you loved die right in in your arms

Looked at that way, Spike's life doesn't seem nearly as desirable IMO

Spike gets my top pick for coolness too. C'mon, he's the tragic hero that shows no fear...and he wears a leisure suit all the time! Can't get much more pimpin' than that, G! He's also a hard-core bounty hunter, and he knows Jeet-kun-do (like Bruce Lee!) What more could a person ask for?[/b]
You're lucky... I've decided to let you live to see the day when I will rule the world.
