Avatar query

Post by kearlywi » Fri Feb 13, 2004 6:58 am

I didnt really know where to put this (since OT is closed). Basically I have been experimenting with DVD ripped footage and converting that footage to avatars. I picked this one, Rei from the EoE, she flashed on the screen with about 5000 other images in one of the films turbo-montages. I was editing the image, and I wanted to layer the background areas so that they would be invisible. In other words, those areas would be the same color as the background (in this case light grey). I couldnt figure out how to get these areas transparent so I just settled for a light grey that nearly matches the light grey forum color. Can anyone help me on this?

Oh yeah, and which avatar do you all like better? This one, or the next one? (2nd = username Kearly)

I got to this thread by the link on the other avatar thing, but I like your second one. Where can I get a good Wolfwood avatar of the web? This one keeps advertising for another website, and I found it on Google.... :?
You're lucky... I've decided to let you live to see the day when I will rule the world.

ya know, this is prety meaningless and an avatar actualy forms part of people's identities on here, so changing the avatar is prety meaningless

Yeah it kind of does. I agree. I think if you change your avatar it should at least carry a theme with the previous one(s). Bum's been a peice of asscloth for as long as I can remember, and its definitely a part of his/her image (your a girl right?) :?

Speaking of the avatar/image thing, its funny but we often allow ourselves to judge peoples genders by their avatars. This avatar happens to be a Rei avatar. Rei is well loved by the fanboy community, and a lot of guys like myself use her likeness for avatars. Maybe its the cold, crystaline, subtly pissed, all business Rei here that implies I'm a feminist (me a feminist  )for sporting her. And if it implies I'm feminist, it implies that I'm female, which I'm not. But hey, I made that avatar myself and I think she looks damn cool, so she stays for now.

Sorry for the double post, but I realized something else about Avatars and Identity. My first avatar was Ryoga flipping the bird. I picked it as my avatar because I thought it was hilarious and a little vulgar (and also because I resemble Ryoga). I noticed that in the forum here I got on peoples nerves very quickly and got several unneccessary hostile reactions. I realized that whatever I said had gained a hostile twist. People were most likely to think I was being sarcastic when saying something nice (which I never am) or that anything negative I said was filled with venom (when I am negative it is to give people a hard time, its just meant as a joke).

After my Kearly's revenge stunt, it seemed like the whole world hated me. I changed my avatar to Kaji from Eva, a character I consider to be wise and full of charm. I was amazed at the difference in respect I recieved just from this small change, it was as if everyone forgot who I was. The quality on the Kaji avatar (which I also made myself, all my avatars are self made) was pretty crappy, and I went out looking for a good clip to make into my next avatar. I made about 15 new ones tonight, and this was my favorite. It was shortly after I set it that I realized that people would begin think that I am a woman or that I have an icy, feminist personality. Not surprisingly, less than 3 hours in to this new avatar, I had a member assume I was a girl. Oh well.

I'm surprised anyone still remembers that. There was a lot of bitterness in that thread, thats for sure, so I shouldn't be surprised.

People don't forget much of anything on this site, I'm coming to find out.
