Maybe I haven't seen enough of Yu Yu Hakusho, but Urameshi has shown no signs of having the ability to take on Spike.

If we're talking about Goku from Dragonball Z, he sure would! Spike has absolutely no power against Son Goku's god-like energy projection abilities. It's like Spike vs Guts, I think Guts is a master fighter and should win, but Spike's medium of killing ability (the gun) has the fatal advantage over Guts's sword, and Spike would almost certainly win.
