what does neon genesis evangelion mean ? and why doesnt its meaning make sense literaly ? (note, i know the answer, im just testing you

Now, that's hardly fair. I think that the people that got another opinion on their questions probably appreciate it, and seeing as your thread introduction doesn't seem to define any rules for the proceedings in terms of this being a thread solely for asking your opinion, I don't think it's fair to lay into someone for trying to help people to understand Evangelion- something that you're clearly interested in. I'm aware of your depth of research and knowledge on the topic, but we can none of us claim to know everything. Can't you stand to share, and to hear other's opinions?

Ultimately, it seems to me that 'hi-jacking' is a little strong a term for participation in a discussion topic.

If this post seems a little inflammatory or ungrounded, or even outright unneeded, then I apologise. I have a lot of respect for UncleMilo and don't believe that he was trying to 'hijack' 'your' thread. Apologies for any offence- and no hard feelings, I hope ^_^;

It's a transliteration of three Greek words:
Neon = new
Genesis = beginning
Evangelion = gospel or good news

Not quite the same as the Japanese title, "Shin Seiki Evangelion" = "new century gospel", but hey, it's what GAiNAX wanted it to be known as in the English-speaking countries of the world.

First of all keep in mind that Rei was most likely an unintended by-product of the failed salvage of Yui Ikari. She later became a tool of Gendo Ikari. She was used as a pilot, a dummy system, a medium for enacting instrumentality, and it is also my belief that she was used to trigger Naoko into the rage that caused Rei's death, as well as Naoko's. The scene seems very scripted to me, and it makes sense as Naoko was at the time trying to dig up the dirt so to speak, and that it was very convenient for her to be disposed of at that point. That is my own theory, and simply something I suggest you ponder.

The show's original title is Shin Seiki Evangelion, which is commonly translated as New Century Evangelion, or New Century Gospel. When bringing the show over, Anno chose the title Neon Genesis Evangelion because he felt it was actually much more fitting. Neon, meaning new. Essentially, New Genesis Gospel, or Gospel of the New Genesis. It idicates that the story is that of humanity's second genesis.

ok now your growing an ego. seriosly, whats the point of only you being able to answer questions ? (besides making your ego biger and your mind narrower)

You know, I was just going to avoid the thread, because Savia is right. I didn't know there were "Rules" to this and I like to answer EVA questions. However, once you posted your Hi-Jacking comment, I figured I'd just leave at that.

However, my EVA info is quite correct (except for where I was joking)

I have discussed this series with many people, including the people who worked on the translation, people with connections to Gainax, and with a friend of mine who has studied the Khaballa for over 10 years now.

My answers are not just vague opinion.

Now... I will leave this thread so you can go on feeling important.
