A Question Regarding Ah My Godess....

Post by Moonlight Soldier » Fri Mar 05, 2004 9:03 am

It occured to me the other day that the names of most of the godesses in Ah My Godess fit with Norse mythology....Skuld, Urd and Verdandi *the three Norns*, I was just wondering if this has anything to do with the actual anime, or if it's just some coincidence/clever attempt by the creators.

Uh...

Of course!

You'd think it'd be a bit obvious

They are indeed named after the goddesses, and, I take it you haven't seen the movie - where further references to Norse mythology are made.

Why is Belldandy's name 'off'?

Because Japanese makes no distinctions between english sounds [v] and and [r] and [l], therefore...

Verdandi = Beldandi. Then just tweak the spelling to look better, and you get Belldandy.

And she's hawt :o
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

P.S. You ever notice that her eyes are wider apart than any other characters?

I meant the actual storyline :P

I'm contemplating adding the movie to my "to buy" list for the convention...

That's right...I HAVE A LIST

And it keeps growing ~_~

Um yes Belldandy urd and skuld are the three fates not as evil as the real viking ones though. Could you imagine Skuld writing Keichis fate in her book. Thats the power she has. She could have just killed him off.

I'm asking if, besides the name thing *that's how I detemined the whole NORSE CONNECTION* IF the anime has mythological subplots =/

The anime, not so much (since there's not much of it ^_^), but there are pretty heavy Norse mythology influences in the manga. There's some references in the movie, but for a lot of references and influences, you want the manga.
