Ah, a personal firewall and adware remover, right. Silly fool, I already have that stuff, but it does not matter, because so many programs have it embedded. Obviously I try not to download those programs. All I'm saying is that last time I download BT I found a bunch of adware and spyware the next day. No it could have been something else, I will recognize that, but it still happens, even behind firewalls. ANd ADware removers only remove adware, they don't prevent it from getting to you. Obviously the best way to preven adware problems is not to download software with adware in it.

As far as BT goes I still don't like it because the fact remains that if you want a video that does not get heavy traffic, you will end up waiting a very long time, Which doesn't matter for established people on the org, but for people like myself it is like giving us a sports car and then tells us we have to drive on the rims. you're handing us a raw deal from the start.

Actually this was not only a bandwidth issue for me
Animix 1234 is a 590GB file.
The donut is limited to 100MB files.

Maybe donating more would remove this limitation but without donating we had here a system that allowed distributing the file so that's what we did.
Also I still feel that for such multi-creator projects that take lots of bandwidth but for a very limited amount of time, bittorrent remains a very good solution, at least for the first weeks when it's released.

That's why I think having a tracker here and maybe using the server as a seeder for some rare cases would be a good idea.
Why donate more when a free solution exists ?

The donut is a very very good thing, but for such projects bittorrent is a better solution, I won't change my mind on this subject, it has proven to work several times here at the org.

Anyway just try to download one of the DDR projects right now. try it, and count how long it takes just to find WHERE you can download it. Then imagine if we had right here a tracker, you'd just have to ask on the forums to reseed, or (better) there'd be at least the server seeding.
That'd be good.

I still say no. Just on the questionable legality alone. Bittorent is associated with illicit software and thus, by associating the Org with Bittorent, there's a certain grey area, like a DMZ, that could potentially endanger the orginization. Just the same as DLing from Kazaa or whatever. Stop being cheap.

I really don't want to argue details. and details like that are best left to the forum admins. I'm not one, so I'm stopping this arguement. I'm sure that the real admins have more than a few reasons NOT to do this. And in cases such as this, When the Admins have the majority (read: ALL) of the authority to make the changes on this site, there is but one rule: The rule is majority and majority rules. Admins say no, it's no. Admins say yes, good for you. You get a twinkie. But I have yet to hear a yes from the admins, so I would say that this discussion is a waste of time. If tyou look towards the original concept of the Golden Donut, and, even, to the Org itself, you'll see the desire for a consistent and centralized location of AMV's. I think that using Bittorent is defeating to that pursuit. So, again, I will vote no.

The admins have already said no. No one has tried to convince them otherwise. The disscusion on this has been ended since January... until a recent necropost, but it was against using BT anyways. So... we agree with you and yet you make it sound like a personal arguement. :? :? :?

I don't take things personally. I honestly don't have time for much of anything anymore now. I just saw this as a chance to make a valid contribution. Sorry if I came across as taking this personally.

you're dumb if you download torrents with anything but Shareaza.
if you use TorrentAid to make the torrent, it will add the links required for eDonkey and the Gnutella network. then you will download from torrent users, eDonkey users, as well as anyone on the Gnutella network (bearshare, limewire, napster, Shareaza, gnucleus, etc) that has the exact same file.
i'm looking for a good php tracker to host at FANtv to test out.
Ya know, there are already dedicated anime torrent trackers. it would help if the Org hosted a tracker at least.

(what, no edit button?!)

a torrent link (hosted here or not) is a great idea for an indirect link on the vid info page!
