Alright, I managed to get 2/3 vids I got to play (Locomotive Breath, and, with some difficulty - Valley Girl); but Happiness is a Warm Gun is still giving me pain; the audio just doesn't work properly. Oh well. I'll look at these 2 for now... :(

Now, here's something I wanted to check: those vids are encoded with DivX 4, no? Just wanted to make sure, as I've noticed some errors during playback, and I wonder if they could be decoder-related. Hmm...

All of my videos went through a final encoding by either AviDemux or FFMpeg, and use either the Divx5 or Divx3 codec. I'm on a linux box and use MPlayer as my media player, so I could be getting results different from someone on a Windows or MacOS machine using the Windows Media Player or iTunes. Also, my audeo is in either a .wav or (for most of my videos) .mp3 format encoded using AviDemux which uses the LAME codec for the .mp3 audeo. I'd try looking for the DivX plugins for whatever media player you use (I know that when I was on Windows I had to get the Divx codec to play some videos that weren't otherwise working properly), and making sure your player has support for .mp3 and .wav (PCM) audeo streams. DivX is free and pretty commonly used, so it shouldn't be hard to find, just Google it.

And for everyone who'd posted a video (or asked for me to look for one of theirs) I should be getting to you sometime today. I do prefer a direct link, to a video if you have on in mind, or to your profile if you just want me to pick one or two of them, as it saves me work and encourages other forum readers to look at what you've done too - esp. if you say what songs and anime you used so they know what's behind the link.

And yes, I will look at a DBZ video or two, I just won't review them if I don't see something special to comment on. I realise that they can be good videos, it's just hard to filter out all the crap that surrounds them.

Thank you.

hmmm... alright, we'll check. I have DivX 5, and I put in DivX 4 which seemed to fix most of the big issues in video; BUT... I wonder which codec the audio is in. I'll check around, hopefully I'll get it working.
There's 2 major types of video errors that I get: strange lines/dots popping all over the screen; and purple crawling lines on the bottom. Something tells me it may be the decoder...

..be back after a bit more tweaking.

><

now I'm lost

I don't think I'll be able to play it properly. Installing the DivX 4 codec only partially solved my playback problems with this one, but completely messed up all other videos I have :|

I went back to 5.11... and, same old.

I think they may be DivX 4. I wish you could give me more detail on the format, since I'm really quite lost here.

They're nice videos, but I can't op them properly if I get errors on playback :(

Do you have any different-format videos?

yeah - definately the decoder. i would like to know if this is a problem for a lo of of other people too, though, as it might explain what i feel are some inordinately low star ratings on a couple of my videos. i don't know if i can resubmit a video while keeping the video profile that's already there (just overwriting the file instead of having to destroy and replace all of the information that goes with it) - but it might be necessary for me to find a different encoder if the one I have has buggy support in the other major OS's.

You can submit delete requests if that's the case; and re-upload them once the requests are processed. You can do that from your 'Edit video' page I think. DO NOT make new entries and upload them again though; that's against site rules.

Well, if you're on a Linux box, I guess that explains some things; that would be a case of system differences you might not have been aware of.

If you want to play it safe, there's always MPEG 1; but DivX and other MPEG-4 formats are fine, just be careful how you encode them. :)

Some of them could be Divx4. I know that the "echoes" video is Divx5, because MPlayer's messagelog says so on playback (I did this one first and using a slightly different process). The others just show up as Divx with no number, and it is perfectly possible that, since I use open-source software, the development of the programs is ahead of their documentation and they moved up to the next higher codec. If anyone knows a way to distiguish for sure between Divx3 and Divx4, please tell me.

And for the audeo, "Happiness is a Warm Gun" uses .wav audeo (the file-size was smaller on that one because of the relatively short song, so I didn't think to compress the audeo before upload. That's probably your problem, and possible one for other people as well, so I'm gonna look for a way to upload a fixed version of the file without violating the site's entry duplication rules.

well, 'wav' audio is kind of like 'avi' video... it could be various formats. But, if I read you correctly - I think it may be uncompressed .wav? Well... that would actually explain the playback problem. My suggestion is you use Lame MP3 codec; can't go wrong with that (well, it did get me a consistently good 'sound' rating ;) ).

I'm looking around your other vids right now; hopefully at least one of them will play right.

Ah. Your Bottle Fairy vid has less problems, but there's still colored lines/blocks that show up when a scene stays static for a while.

Didn't stop me from enjoying the vid this time, quite funny
