In terms of dub audio:

Most people don't use it for a WIDE variety of reasons. For one thing, the dub audio generally isn't what we're used to. This is definitely changing (as the typical anime fan is changing), but for the most part, the anime fans (especially the ones dedicated enough to make music videos) are watching the stuff in its original Japanese dialogue. Who wants to hear the dub voices?

Furthermore, 99% of anime convention contests will not allow any English dubbed audio in the videos; they'll just be disqualified. Cons don't have the rights to the performances of these voice actors, and therefore cannot / will not play them at the con. So why make a video with dubbed voices if you can't get it played anywhere?

In terms of Japanese audio:

You've gotta subtitle it. Anime fans are trained to read subtitles. You get them reading subtitles, they're not paying attention to the rest of the video and what's (hopefully artistically?) going on.

Also, it's another language. Sure, we're used to it (being anime fans and all), but unless you subtitle it (which brings in the things mentioned above), we're not going to be able to understand it, really, so what's the point?

It's not like it HASN'T been done (and it's not like it hasn't been done EFFECTIVELY)... but it's hard to do WELL and do well EFFECTIVELY at the same time (which is why it's NOT all that often... Christ, does that even make sense?!).

I think people do it more often than you might think. Usually for opening or closing bumps, but it's done.

Sorry, but thats just rediculous. I can almost gaurentee you at least HALF of cons out there have no written (or verbal) agreement with any of the liscensed prodution companies (American or Japanese) to use the anime scenes shown, or with the music artists who make the songs.

Virtually every anime DVD (any DVD, in fact) contains an FBI warning (that I'm sure no one reads) prohibiting this usage without prior consent. A display (contest) at a con easily qualifies as "public exhibition" and not "private, at home use".

I'm not saying what your saying is a lie, what I am saying is that if any CON's management told me something like that I'd only burst out laughing in their faces. Thats a pathetic excuse to say "We like it in Japanese and English sux" as far as I'm concerned.

I'm running an AMV contest myself for the second year in a row. When I began running it, I took the rules specifically from the higher-ups which specifically said not to accept anything from English dubbed productions. *shrugs* It's still in the Otakon rules, as far as I know, as well. There seems to be a reason for it being there... other than that it's simply distracting.

Furthermore, cons should be paying some kind of licensing / royalty fee for the usage of the music played... not quite sure how it works behind-the-scenes, but I do know something is done. They can't just publically play all this music for nothing.

The playing of the VIDEO stream, itself, is another thing entirely. That's just kinda swept under the rug, twiddle thumbs, whistle, etc.

Not sure what kind of con you're talking about, but this is what I know from speaking with Otakon people / helping run AnimeNext's contest... *shrugs* If that's "rediculous," so be it.

HEHEHE. The First video I made had audio of the characters speaking in Just the right moment and in just the right way for the song. The Video was four minutes long and people offerd me four dollars or less just for a copy. So it could be great and i don't know why i dont see it more offen.

I have it on VHS and it was deleted off the computer I used. It took I think about 4 gigs on the computer. The computer wasnt mine it belonged to a Multimedia class i did it in. I cant wait to get it it VHS to a pc. Back then was the only time I was able to use a computer that worked well for video editing. Any members who have seen my current videos have not even scratched the surface of what im capable of.

Audio mashing is a good technique for action videos for those grunts or gasps after a punch or kick. i've also seen it used for bullets and explosions. However, explosions or "really spectacular scenes" often are sync'ed with dynamic parts of a song for better song/video intergration...

Pretty sure it's okay, since it's a DIRECT link...Animix 1/2/3/4 is 650 MB so far, and they still haven't finished part 5 yet....
