Why are dubs automatically given the shaft? (mini-rant)

I watch both really, however once ive watched the sub I usually watch that more, but whenever I get a new anime I watch in in English (or another language other than the original) first.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

In my opinion both are good. But, I prefer the subs for the reason that there are no cuts and the dialogue isn't changed in any way. Then the dubs I watch because I'm just too lazy to want to read and I just don't understand japanese enough to watch subs when half asleep. With that said the best way to get an anime is on dvd because you can get the best of both. *shrugs*

True, but that doesn't really change the reason that some people watch subs first or exclusively (*this* reason, atleast). When you are watching a dub you don't know if it's accurate. "Is this the original music?" "Is this dialouge at all accurate?" "Is that guy supposed to sound snotty?" Maybe it is the real music, maybe the dialouge is extremely accurate, and maybe that guy is supposed to sound snotty. The thing is that you don't know for sure. When you're watching a sub, you are seeing the real product. Even if the subs are less accurate than the dub dialouge, you are still seeing the real thing and you know that you saw the show as it was intended to look. Now I am not in anyway trying to tell YOU to watch subs, or suggesting that whatever reasons you have for watching dubs are invalid (obviously native language is more than enough reason) but the reasons people have for watching subs are very valid.Scintilla wrote:Necroposter!ebony412 wrote:I prefer the subs for the reason that there are no cuts and the dialogue isn't changed in any way.
I know someone's pointed this out before in a different thread, but the set of dubbed anime and the set of cut anime are not the same.
