Jubei Chan: The Ninja Girl - Very funny show, Bantaro's shirt alone had me cracking up.
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 - Good cyberpunk/action series, plus Nene is hawt o.O
El Hazard - I've only seen The Wanderers, and most everyone insists that the OAV is better. So if that's the case, it should be pretty good.

Cowboy Bebop - (A Backstory w/o Spoilers)
Two bounty hunters roam around the galaxy, well, hunting bounties and dealing with their past in their own peculiar way. (This series is excellently done and is considerably more deep than it would sound from my 1 sentence summary. There are more characters than the original 2 as well. By the end of the first 3 Episodes their character count is unofficially up to 4)
Escaflowne - (Also no Spoilers)
Hitomi, a Japanese schoolgirl :x , must help the King of Finalia, Van, must fight the evil empire Zarbok. This series involves Giant Mechs (Gimelifths) and one kick-ass Gimelifth, Escaflowne. It is really pretty well done, and the beginning rocks though Hitomi's character doesn't. (The series is really about Van the Warrior and Alan the Pimp, though no one knows it)
SIDE NOTE: As a side note there is also a movie Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea that takes place in an 'alternate universe' so the plot isn't exactly the same and few things are explained (it is my personal belief that Hitomi is also more pitiful), but the graphics are better and it contains some of the same themes.

Kenshin/Gasaraki/Hellsing
Rorouni Kenshin - (w/o spoilers, duh)
Kenshin Himura was the strongest assassin during the Mejii Restoration and was considered the best among the 'Manslayers.' However, after the revolution he became a wanderer for 10 years and after that period is when the show takes place. Kenshin faces various people from his past and attempts to help pretty much everyone. (Important Note: He has taken an oath not to kill, so no killing)
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal - This movie is awesome for its action and especially awesome if you have watched the first season of Kenshin because it provides the necessary background for Kenshin's character. However, this movie's style does not reflect the series.
Gasaraki - (w/o spoilers, I think)
Ok, this is another Mech anime. Some funky shit goes down in the city and this guy spends most of the series either fighting in a man-made mech or freaking out. Ok, I can't really write a backstory to this because the whole point of the series is that you don't really know the backstory until more than half way through.
Hellsing - (w/o Spoilers)
If you have seen trailers for the movie Hellboy the you know the basic plot, it is also rather similar to the Blade movies. (except this show came out first and is awesome) A powerful vampire helps a Super-secret branch of the British Secret Service kill other hell-spawn. There is also a vampire cadet, but she is nowhere near as cool as Alucard.(Dracula spelled backwards) That is pretty much all of a back story I can give w/o giving away some of the plot twists/developements.

Berserk -
A young mercenary named Guts joins up with a mercenary leader named Griffith in Griffith's rise to the top of the aristocracy. He kills for Griffith, Griffith plans who to kill next. This is the back-story for the first 20-some episodes, then they blow the dismount and fall victim to fatal-unravelling. Despite the lack of true depth in this plot few can deny that the killing is good.
BASTARD!! -
This is a poorly animated short TV show done in the early 90s/late 80s. It would be aweful except for one thing, it was dubbed over by someone with an amazing sense of humor. It is really pretty funny. Backstory - A powerful sorceror, Darth Snyder, attempted to take over the world and was locked away by priests in a certain city. Darth's forces then disintigrated for a while. A few years later the forces reform under new leadership and start to try to take over the world again. They beseige the same city and in a final desperate attempt to save themselves the people re-awaken Darth Snyder, who has a hard time deciding whether to kill his rebellious generals or the people who locked him away. Cue Rest of Story.
Orphen - (1/4 Spoiler - I think you find it out within the first 4 episodes)
This is another case similar to the previous one where someone just dubbed in such things as to make the series pretty funny. There are 2 things wrong with this series. 1) The midgets 2)Magic's Voice is Shinji. Backstory - Orphen want's to save his big sister figure who has trapped herself inside of a dragon's form. Therefore he must gather together some artifacts and call together enough power to be able to free her. The majority of this story is non-plot related adventures though. (Some are barely Plot related)

Trigun - (w/o spoilers)
Vash the Stampede is worth an astronomical figure of money for class G weapons damage and so every bonty hunter on the planet, as well as quite a few non-bounty hunters, are after him. He is also an amazingly skilled/lucky gunman who spends all of his time trying not to hurt anybody. That is the plot for the first 1/2 of the show, but then the real story starts to emerge, in which Vash faces his past, which I cannot explain because the series has so much fun explaining it. (Are we seeing a partern developing here?)
FLCL -
Before you read anything else know this, This show is only 6 Episodes long, but if you are going to buy it on DVD it is still 3 DVDs, I guess that is how marketting works. Background- Nauta is a regular school kid in his hometown in Japan. Nothing interesting ever happens. Then Haruko, a silly lady with pink hair, shows up and strange things involving robots start to happen. This series is random and heavily influenced by American Pop-Culture. (There is even a point where they make their animation style look like South Park) It also has one of the best sound-tracks in an anime. (second to the summation of all of Cowboy Bebop's in my opinion) This anime's backstory is not remarkable, which is part of what makes the series so good.

Have you ever heard of Inspector Gadget? Ok, mix Inspector Gadget with a 250 pound body-builder and redesign him for realism and you have J, the cyborg/robot. He and his partner, Dice, go around and fight crime in a city where cyborgs are forbidden by law. That is about all of the backstory there is for this show.
