Cruella

Post by Vlad86 » Tue Mar 30, 2004 12:02 am

Ok, so its not anime, but this coupling of animation and music is too perfect not to do.

This:

Animation: 101 Dalmations (the original, the one that looks dark)
Song: "Cruella" by Deadsy

Lyrics:

"Cruella"

How the story rolls
Magic's taught and history's told
A glory hole
Which through gazed her eyes of gold
Those veins run cold
Mystery's wife evades her soul
Scaring to and fro

Tearing through the snow
As she makes her darling coat
Hoarding all the shawls
Now her evil highness rose

Kind of like Shakespearean prose
Without the rose
Avid as she sows
Cruella grows
Horace and Jasper stole
So let the horror flow

Black and white in hair
Elegantly gaunt in frame
A boney flare
Which christened Cruel with creepy grace
Always smokey air
Circling one lurch, Hepburn face
In her head which filled the space
Was the one hellacious taste
As she aims her fate
Nothing flees her sore embrace

As the biggest mistake that Cruel ever made
Was when she left her cave and started to reign
As the love for her fades
Our feelings won't change
So my darling Cruella
We see through the grey

In her cold glare
Loveliest and rare
Frightened you'll soon wear
And this elegantly haunting is so fair
Theres no reason to part from her cold lair
She has all of the loveliest and rare
Things which frighten at first
But she'll soon wear

She's a regional spark from this nowhere
And this elegant loveliness so fair
Taking strolls through the dark by the moon's glare
As she listens for barks in the night air
Always searching for marks on the white hair

Cruel, you're so fair

C'mon, if ever there was a song made just for something.....

(btw, I'm not doing this because I have don't have the time, the software, or the source footage [or the talent] to make this vid, so i'm throwing this out in hopes that SOMEONE will pick it up and do it. Someone who has time, skill, and whatever else I don't)

You know, the lady if Iron Town in Mononoke Hime would fit that description perfectly, if you want to tie in some animation from the other side of the pacific ocean.

I really don't see how it would suit Cruella DeVille. But maybe if I hear the song It would seem right.
I would completly ignore the comment by Rose, so what if it isn't anime I think the word needs ALOT more non anime AMV's wich is why I am trying to do alot of disney ones. So yeah Ill add this to my list. But its a long list so it probbaly won't be done for a while.

Althous strnagley enough songs like that verry rarley fit the charecters they are named after (Sleeping Beauty by A perfect Circle for example)

I wasn't speaking out of a narrow-minded view that American animation is inherently inferior (both side of the ocean put out a lot of great stuff, and a lot of crap), but rather in view of the fact that entirely non-anime videos are not supposed to be submitted to the site (I didn't make the rules, but I try to follow them). You might not care about that, and you probably could make many good videos out of Disney animation (which, ironicly enough, was one of the major inspirations of Japanese animation styles when they were in their early development), I was just trying to give a suggestion on making something that can be submittied to this site without being in violation of the terms of use. Once again, though, the final prodect could very well be good enough to justify the violation of a rule that was probably made more as a measure of preventing a mass of South Park/Linkin Park videos from cloggin up the site (though, once again, South Park also has a place and a purpose - and does a damn good job of fulfilling that purpose).

Once again, I in no way meant to come across as an America-bashing elitist. I just wanted to toss out an idea that someone may or may not feel like using.

I also kinda wonder on the "Hepburn Face" line. Katherine, maybe. Audrey, definately not. I guess Katherine did have the cheekbones, but not quite the demeanor. But I digress...

Sorry if I sounded rude.. It was late and I was in a bad mood. Again my appologies.

But from my understaind of your post are you saying that if the AMV is actully good then you can bypass the rules and get it hosted on this site?

Cause that would be cool. (My amvs arnt great but they are pretty good.)

But on trying to remeber the movie, I cant really see it as being dramatic enough to make a good AMV, as this doesnt sound like a song you could do a comedy video to.

Ahh Ill just have to hire it out and give it another watch.

Technically, no - violating the terms you agree to on upload isn't really justified by the quality of the video.

I do, however, imagine that they "aren't so much rules as guidelines", and that the no-hentai no-grotesque violence rules are the ones that should be set in stone. Once again, however, I didn't make them and it's not my job to give the official interperetations - so you might want to contact Phade (the site administrator) for a more authorative answer. I do know that posting non-anime AMVs will get you banned from a lot of competitions, so you might want to weigh that in if you plan on entering other videos later on.

As to the movie not being dramatic enough for an AMV, I have to ask which one. Mononoke Hime was definately dramatic, and - though it's been a while since I've seen it - the original 101 Dalmations was pretty dramatic at points as well. Disney movies actually depend very much upon dialogue and the music they use to lighten the mood of their more dramatic scenes, and changing the music will often dramaticly alter the viewer's perceptions of what is being shown.

On a side note: you might want to count the number of times I've said "once again" and "however" in this thread. I just realized the extent of my grotesque overuse of those two phrases in my forum writing. Wow.

Hmm, someone actually gave feed back to one of my ideas....

It must be a good one then!

Anyways, if you consider making this vid, make an effort to hear the song.
Its really good, but do keep in mind it is a 5min+ song. And the pacing is pretty slow up until the "Black and white in hair" part.

But, I am surprised....
No one imeadiately made a connection to the original 101 Dalmations when they read the lyrics?
This song pretty much was written specifically for that character.
It's actually a pretty good description of her character.

It might just be worth bumping up on your list....
(and maybe Phade might make an exception....maybe)

I thought of it when I read the line about hair of black and white.

Cuz we all know, Cruella was just ripping off the bride of Frankenstein.

Shwing.
