I find stuf in the background too distracting so I always watch videos full screen, especially if it's a horror or mood video then it's lights out and volume up.

The only execption is if I'm reviewing and I'm doing a timing breakdown, then I watch it windowed so I can see the runtime display.

yeah, that's been exactly my strategy all along.

I compare this to active music listening. The more focus you can keep on it, the better. Of course, the difference with music is that I also prefer to turn off the monitor...

As with most things artistic, the less distraction, the more attention you can give, the better the effect.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Yeah... watching the video without a monitor can be dissapointing to say the least!

Actually one of my strategies for my students is to make them watch each other videos with no sound. If you can't tell what the hell the point of the video is without having the lyrics spell it out, then the message is overly diluted.

As for Zarx' videos.. there is so much fanservice in them that it should be a crime to not watch them on full screen.

But on the other hand, if they can "get" the entire message of the video without needing any audio... then what does that accomplish? It is an anime music video, after all : )

Well, that depends on how you treat it. Some of us often see these more as 'short films' of sorts...

I don't want to derail the topic too much here, but basically my thought is that the music and the video should complement each other. When you watch a video like Iris without sound you get the story, if you watch it with the music, then it all falls into place very nicely. Sort of like when you watch an actual movie... the music should enhance a scene not dominate it.

Returning to our topic, full screen should enhance the whole experience of watching the videos, but if the quality is dirt then it has the opposite effect.

*looks at preview* Damm, I pontificate a lot don't I?

Do it all night!
Do it with me!
I'll take you to heaven
if you make me feel free!
Do it tonight!
Do it alright!
Just take me and shake me
till I burn up inside!
