Personally I cheer when the bombers drop the bombs.

I'm Pro American war!
Without bombing the crap out of cities we wouldn't get great anime like Grave of the Fireflies. In 15 or 20 years I'm sure we'll get another great anime called Grave of the Goats detailing the story of a young Afghani family.....

Seriously, anybody that has never seen anime, or complains that anime is shallow needs to see this. More than any other anime, I think this one has the greatest cinematic drama, and true human emotion to it. Hell it's better than most movies that I've seen.

=\

did you watch the movie?

set in world war II

random US firebombings of cities

i cant remember exactly, but
spoiler wrote:heres some more examples during the movie:

Setsuko is left in the shelter telling her doll...Seita went
to the mountain for firewood. All the while, American bombers are still
terrorizing the citizens of Japan

He lifts her up and begins feeding her, telling her that once she gets
well, he'll take her to the beach again. That night, air raid sirens sound while
searchlights shine in the background. Seita quickly gets up. As firebombs rain
down on the citizens, Seita rushes against the flow of the crowd. He takes
whatever he can find as houses burn around him.

He(seita asks another man if the
Great Japanese Empire really lost. It is confirmed. Seita asks about the fleet,
and the man says it's all wiped out. Shocked, Seita grabs the man by the shirt
and asks if that's why his father hasn't written. The man pushes Seita off,
saying how could he tell, and walks away. Seita curses and runs out of the bank.
He falls to his knees and pants, and mutters that he's so hungry. He looks in
his pocket and takes out the now-tattered picture of his father. Hands shaking,
he begins to walk, muttering that his father is dead too. Calling for his
father, he notices a plane fly overhead. He gets down and watches it fly off.
just a couple examples, but it should be enough

GOTF is considered by some anti-american because of sentiments expressed by characters (the reaction to american bombers, the general feeling about how Japan will beat america, the shock when Japan surrenders).

In truth I consider it more patrotic Japanesse than anti-american (I mean is there really supose to be a movie where the Japanesse say "yah, here come the american bombers to teach us a lesson for our evil ways")

ok no ofence to anyone, but just how fucking patrioted and narrowminded are americans ? sure not all americans are like this but, seriosly ? off course the movie was gona show all thoughs scenes, because all of that actualy happened. all of that was real. lets remember that this movie is partly based on a true story. the movie would have bein prety crap if it didnt show thoughs scenes. i mean, honestly, is a movie supose to remove any scenes that show america not being patriotic and all good and heroic and al that crap ? my god, how narrow minded can some peopel get ?

Well wouldn't you know it, mentioning it in a preventative manner set it off.

Damn me.

True Story: I watched in the dayroom back when I was in the US Coast Guard. I was run out of the room and the DVD thrown into the hallway. Never watch this anime around the majority of folks in the US military.

Hmm, also related, I nearly got similiar treatment when I watched Silent Service, but it was after that US sub had sunk that Japanese fishing vessel, so they were a bit more tolerant. Gasaraki scarily became a predictor of things to come.

It's behavior like that that makes me wonder why stupid presidents get away with so much. Patriotism is just another word for blind faith.
