Reasons:
-No screwed up past to haunt you
-Jack of all trades
-Interesting love life (if not always successful)
and
-Given the way Monkey Punch works, prettymuch invincible (from what I've seen/read, only jailed once...and even conned his way out of that)

Also nice: Leon from BGC2040. I mean... cool guns, a hotheaded womam that saved the world and now loves you! I mean... WOW!

I can´t recall another male anime char whose background, perspective and personality are that desperate that w change would be worth it.

Wait.. Kurz Weber from FMP.... nah. So I change a 17-year old mercrenary for a 20 year old solider. so why? Not worth it. My career and life doesn´t depend on some wacky pacifistic chick that somehow rules my unit.
