How much weight does music hold in an AMV?

Post by inthesto » Wed Apr 14, 2004 8:10 pm

I mean, an AMV could have spot-on syncing, wonderful digital effects, and top-notch A/V quality, but if the song is wrong, the whole thing just can't hold any water, in my opinion.

On the other hand, an AMV can have somewhat shoddy timing, poor capture quality, and other numerous faults, but if the absolutely correct song is found for the concept, then a lot of errors can be overlooked, right?

Of course, this is all assuming that the creator had a solid concept in mind in the first place.

The music is a huge factor for me. If you hate the song you will not like the video. If you love the song, well, you can always close your eyes.
Good editing combined with good music is greater than the sum of its parts but there's a lot of different kinds of sync and many of them are subjective so not everyone will appreciate them.

"Power of hard work" comes to mind. Not great editing, poor quality, subtitles for god's sake! But I like the video because the song is awesome and it fits the concept of the video.

your correct in many ways. I've seen a lot of videos that have great editing and timing, but that's all they are. I find it sad that people say my older videos are good. Now, I look at them and see bad timing, bad editing and other things i wish i knew about. back when i made them, i guess it was more the concept that made me like them then anything else. maybe thats why my fans like them also?

I think it depends entirely on the overall execution. I've seen videos where I absolutely abhor the song, but I find the video highly enjoyable because of some other quality it carries (sheer entertainment value, an interesting concept, strong message, etc.)

Depends entirely on the person watching it... if what you care about is how other people view it.

bah... forgot to add other stuf...

Yea music, at least to me, is probably the #1 thing that determines if i will like the video or not. If i don't like the song, i wont like the video.

Hmmm...I guess you have a point there. In theory, the music should always be "right" to the creator, at least.

Unless the creator is ridiculously high while making the video.

Most of the time, the music is the only reason I'll download a video: I search for videos done to songs I like.

Not that there aren't other ways to get me to DL a video.

The music greatly effects how much I enjoy a video. I can still appreciate a video with a song I hate, for its artistic or technical qualities... I just won't really enjoy it too much. I don't really care for Euphoria for this reason... I dislike the song.
