True, gaps always seem to be more or less of a gap depending on how old the people involved are.Kalium wrote:I dunno, flint. Even twenty years ago, eight years wasn't so bad. Of course, the differences are always seen from the perspective of ones age. At 15 or twenty, five years seems lik a lot. At thirty, it suddenly doesn't seem that big a difference anymore.

I don't have any problems with Robin & Amon being in a relationship. They make a very good couple, and Robin is very hot.

About that... if he was unconscious for all those years and so not learning or developing mentally in that time, and his body wasn't growing either, then isn't he underage in every way that means anything, even if his birthday did happen to be 18 years ago? Why isn't the situation just as sick as it looks, even if it's technically not illegal?Arigatomyna wrote:I know. ^.~J-0080 wrote:He had an extemely rare medical condition, just because it's extremly convienient doesn't necessarily mean anything, though.Arigatomyna wrote: Take Please Teacher - the boy looks 14, but he's supposed to be 18 allowing the older woman affair.
Omni had to explain it to me since I was up in arms over the pedophilia of that boy who looked likeh he should have been in grade school. ^_^;;
Before anyone flames me too hard, note my opinion on age limits is no secret... but we need to be intellectually honest about it.

No, I told Omni the exact same thing - whether years went by or not, he did not *live* those years, so emotionally he never aged during that time. And yes, mentally handicapped people (people with disorders like this 'disease' that effect their mental and emotional growth) are protected and considered legally as old as their minds have made them. That's why you see forty-year old women who have 'guardians' because emotionally they're twelve.koronoru wrote:About that... if he was unconscious for all those years and so not learning or developing mentally in that time, and his body wasn't growing either, then isn't he underage in every way that means anything, even if his birthday did happen to be 18 years ago? This gap isn't that bad, but as far as I'm concerned he's still a little kid whether his birth certificate says 18 or not - he didn't get any of the mental growth that would make him capable of choosing the way an 18yr old is supposed to. And for an adult (teacher no less) to take advantage of that sickens me. That's why I won't watch the anime - the concept (even *knowing* that he's '18 so it's okay') comes off as shota-con to me, and I don't watch that. It being a teacher just makes it ten times worse, one of the reasons I *do* like the CCS teacher/girl pairing - because that's a platonic "I'll wait for you" type deal, not a "your body says 18 so it's okay" deal.
I don't really have a problem with anime pairings between young people and older people - so long as emotionally the 'young' person is older than s/he looks. Think Hisoka from YnM, he's 16 forever, but emotionally - mentally - he ages just like anyone would. It's just the looks that make him young. Pairings that are the opposite - little girls with breasts and short skirts but the mentalities of 9yr olds - squicks me out. Just preference. I'm sure people like Please Teacher (I know they do), but the concept will never be 'acceptable' to my preferences. ^_^;

I wonder how Raxephon falls into this. After all, Ayato and Haruka were the same age originally.
I see it falling into four basic categories.
Old young:
Card Captor Sakura - Crush on an older teacher. He seems a bit embarrased about the whole thing, but treats her nicely thus giving her time to mature and move on.
Strawberry Eggs - Crush on an older teacher.... uh... ahm... he seems to like her too, but doesn't know what to do about it.
Chobits - She is portrayed as young mentally and drawn as a child for the most part.
Who knows:
Unrealistic agings almost have no bearing..
Inuyasha for example is at a minimum 50 years older than Kagome.
Ah My Godess - how old are they?
Touya and Yukito
Clow and Sakura (yes.. I know it was just a sub plot)
Old young, but she'll wait:
The anime with unrealistic age pairings that have one party (typically the female, since you know: it's cool and all to have a woman waiting for you while you save the world) sort of cheat around this one, but in a way that is palatable for American audiences. (Tenchi for example)
Steel Angel Karumi - she's maybe two years old? He's underage too, so I guess she's waiting for him to get older ironically.
Same age but drawn different:
Onegai twins falls into this one.. no way do those girls look the same age.
Rahxephon - Ayato and Haruka might fall here..
Maburaho - high school students with lots of cleavage.
I'm sure I forgot plenty of stuff, so feel free to disagree.
