downloading .wmv format videos

Post by Mechwarrior5 » Wed Apr 28, 2004 11:26 pm

I try to download all the nifty new .wmv videos that come out, but my internet explorer wants to show them *in* I.E. in that little window at the bottom right hand of the screen when the media tab comes up. I can view other media files online in the same manner (though I'd rather just download them in the standard way), but not ones downloaded from your site. Anyway, I get a windows media player error and get kicked over to a microsoft help page that does anything but help. It tells me to check my proxy settings, which seem to be fine, and then says it's probably the host site's fault, which I'm pretty sure it's not 'cos you would have a lot more people than me yelling at you guys about it. Anyway, is this a common problem? And does anyone know how I can fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

Have you considered using <a href="http://www.netscape.com">Netscape</a>, <a href="http://www.mozilla.org">Mozilla</a>, or <a href="http://www.opera.com">Opera</a>?

Mechwarrior5:
press the "media" button in IE then you'l see the media bar ,click "media options>Settings>Reset Preffered types>yes"
then the next time you try downloading a WMV it will ask you if you want to play it in IE press NO.then you'll have the option to save the file on to your computer and play it has you want.
