yea, it's obviously supposed to be him telling Misato that he's been growing melons, for crying out loud, we see the freakin' melons as he waters them, so i think they just messed up on the translationMrScribble wrote:The whole thing with Kaji and the melons is so Freudian. especially when he tells Misato that he's been growing... flowers...
...what's 'freudian'
also, thnx for the feedback Scintilla, i guess the only thing i can do is what you've been doing, pick up volumes of both styles and compare them to each other
i'll probably just keep my current ones and just get the last ones in the newer style... i'm not that anal where i have to have matching mangas... [sweats]

Of or relating to the theories of Sigmund Freud, father of the psychodynamic theory of psychology.Daio Kaji wrote:...what's 'freudian'MrScribble wrote:The whole thing with Kaji and the melons is so Freudian. especially when he tells Misato that he's been growing... flowers...
Freud had some rather wacked-out theories; he stated that all human behaviour stems from our basic urges of sex and violence and how we deal with those urges in a civilized society.
He's gained a reputation for turning everything into a phallic (or otherwise sexual) reference.

I dont really pay attention to the manga since its only a retelling of the tv series. The tv show is the orginal so thats what I go by. The manga is funnier but not what was originally intended for the story. SO technically his past cant be a filler since its the original story.

no, his past wasn't in the anime, it was in the manga, the anime didn't say anything besides his relationship to misato and his motives to find 'the truth'MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:SO technically his past cant be a filler since its the original story.
so i guess you'd consider kaji's past to BE filler... which is fine with me, it's entertainingly believable filler

sorry got distracted while typing that earlier, must have been thinking of Touji while I was typing it. Koji's past was pretty interesting though I enjoyed more for the fact that it gave more depth to the relationship between Koji and Shinji.

The anime isn't completely what was originally intended for the story either.MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:I dont really pay attention to the manga since its only a retelling of the tv series. For example: Originally, there were only supposed to be 12 Angels. In the TV series, there are 17; in the manga, there are only 12 (Sandalphon, Matarael, Iruel, and Leliel aren't included, and either Adam or Lilith isn't counted as an Angel).
And the manga is NOT simply a retelling of the series; it's significant differences like this that prove that.

well then it seems that neither version is the completely intended product... but TOGETHER!!.. it's better
so now it's very complicated, both versions contain some sort of filler... so i guess we can stop worshipping NGE, it's still subject to the same weaknesses as anything else... filler
whether added enemies or added histories, each isn't perfect... but what i DO like, is how even though both had extra elements in the story, both the anime and manga use that extra stuff very nicely and it doesn't seem to be in the way at all 8)
(i do remember reading about the 'extra' angels in the back of one of the eva mangas... but i don't care because the angels weren't repetative, they stayed original no matter how many there were)
