Complex character huh .... ummm, let me think .... i would have to say shinji from neon genesis evangelion. He is a hard person to understand or even try to understand .... Wait .... well .... yeah ... he is a complex character, but now that i think of it, he is more of a insane character having no one to turn to and holding everything inside of him until he blows up ... yeah thats shinji!

that is a tough one

there are many characters out there that will make any pyschiatrist scratch his head, take shinji from neon genesis, now he's one f**ked up character, but then theres excel from excel saga, who is rather hyperactive and boistorous.
But the all time 'complex award' has to go to minie may from gunsmith cats, what a little bomb freak i bet even sigmonfroid couldnt figure her out.

Do you mean complex like they're just crazy? Cause that actually wouldn't mean they were complex, it'd mean they were static. Complex usually means the character undergoes some kind of emotional change, attitude changes, etc, usually over the course of the whole series. Half the main characters of I My Me Strawberry Eggs would be a good example of complex characters.

pikachu! you see, he may look simple, but he's really a very conflicted character. between all the thunder bolts and cuteness, his character comes to ask: what does it all mean? he then goes on to ponder the human condition in a post cold war society.
