I still dont understand why people think Shinji is a pansey. He lost his mother at a young age and his only relative abandoned him. Later resposibility is thrown on him all of sudden and he is charged with saving the world. He had no self esteem to start off with. By far he has to be one of the realistic characters I've seen. Any other human raised like he was would have ended up like him. I dont care how cool you think you are or think how you could have handled it, I highly doubt you would have faired much better if you had been raised the same. I think a pansey is someone who had an easy life yet still complains about stuff.

You're very right. He is a very realistic character, and perhaps, you're right. That no one would really end up better than him if put through the same circumstances. But to me, it's the way that Shinji deals with his problems, or more specifically, they way he doesn't.

I don't see the big deal with him, I always heard oh all he does is whine blah blah blah, giving me a general bad impression of him...but I found him quite tolerable =/ I liked his character.

Ok, the biggest pansy ever is the guy from Ah! My Goddess. I love that anime, but seriously what's this guy do. "Oh Belldandy you're a goddess and you're absolutely in love with me, but what's that we're never going to see each other again, ok you clean the gutters i'm going to go to school", ok i don't really know if it's as much pansy as toolbag, but still that guy needs a beating.

And shinji isn't a pansy, think about the situation he's in, not the nicest.

Like I said its not suprising that he did, Im more suprised he didn't commit suicide long before the series even started. The fact he turned out well enough to fight is a miracle upon itself. As far as pansies go I think Vegeta is one of the biggest. He is one of the strongest fighters in the universe but all he does is cry about it. He's given power at birth as well as pampered his entire life yet all he does is pout about Goku. But like Shinji he atleast has a revelation about his life and changes his outlook.

I think Shinji is probably the biggest pansy. I don't mind the character though. He at least trys to overcome being a wuss sometimes. You can't expect more really. He is kind of a real type character. Plus he is that sensitive type of guy that hangs out with all the girls.

Krillin eventually becomes the strongest human. Getting beat up doesn't make you a pansy, just not strong enough.

I would say Yamcha. In a way more so than Shinji. Yamcha has a bunch of power and still is the first Z fighter ready to run away.

In both the cases of Shinji and Yamcha I would be more than willing to swap places. Giant robots and ultimate speed and fighting techniques is huge inscentive. Who cares if you don't make it back. It would be one hell of a ride even just to go down in flames.

Besides Yamcha is such a wuss even though he can be brought back to life. I say kick some ass damn it.

Um...did you miss the entire Frieza saga? That's not what I would call pampering by a long shot. o.O

Considering he was about 2 feet tall when he was given to Frieza (meaning very young, maybe 6-8 yrs old), and he was with him until past adulthood, he spent most of his life with Frieza. Any pampering came in those first 6-8 yrs, which is no more than what Goku got on Earth when he was a chibi - only Goku remained with loving friends for his entire life (and even on into the afterlife and back again). I'd say watch the series again if you think Vegeta had a pampered life.

[But he does cry too much - except for during the beating scene, and his first death - I think they explained why he was crying well enough for it to be expected during those parts. The Brolly movie on the other hand...that was just pathetic. >.< ]

When I say pampering I dont mean that we was given everything on a silver spoon. Considering that Vegeta was allowed to live is proof that Freeza treated Vegeta much better than most of his other men. Freeza would also show Vegeta mercy when he did things that would normally end in death if it were someone else. It could be said it was done because Vegeta was strong but up until his betrayel Vegeta was far inferior to Freeza's other main men. This drives me to believe that he was "pampered".

Also when I say cry I dont mean in the sense that he is sobbing but when he is pouting about things.

My definitions of things are different than many others. I look deeper into things than what is apparent on the surface. When I watch a series I look into the psycological aspects of characters. This is why I believe that Shinji is one of the more believable characters.
