No. ^_^;; It's asking for *any* non-official pairings that you think would work. Any pairing that isn't established in the original anime - but that you think would still work in an odd way.Cloud Clone wrote:Hm, I'm still not sure, but I'm guessing that this topic is asking for strange homosexual relationships.

Canon Defined
Looking back at the first topic I see where the unofficial part comes from.Ryu-Inuluver wrote:I know a lot of people like the original couples, for some Anime I do too. But what's your favorite non-canon couple, like not usual but you think they're perfect for each other. I like A LOT of diff. couples, some people just are and aren't meant to be you know.
However I focused on the word non-canon due to later posts. That would simply be an unusual pairing.
To Arigatomyna
Point taken. Yeah the manga doesn't make much of it either.
Canon
A canon is a standard of judgement. Something typical. Non-canon would then be that which is unusual.
I took that to mean an odd couple. Not necessarily a fictional one.
That is why I don't find Hiei and Kurama unusual even if they are unofficial.
Its still not that odd. They share a number of similarities with just enough differences.
That is also why I named those that I did. Both were unusual relationships.
Unofficial rules out Akane and Ranma.
I suppose given unofficial and non-canon I would say Ryoko and Ayeka. (Of which there is better circumstantial evidence anyway.)
They're way more odd. Ayeka is a prude hiding a suppressed S&M queen with issues (This shows up a lot more vividly in mangas). Ryoko is a bit of sadist as well. Their life styles and personalities differ extremely and they fight over the same guy (and everything else).
To Cloud Clone
Try commenting on something other than a mild joke. It was to something said earlier. Unofficial and Non-canon just parallel a lot of the homosexual anime relationships. The point is to think of good answer, but I see your point. Even if it was lazy.

Ah, see I'm going by the old fanfic way of defining canon or non-canon (aka fanon) pairings in anime. In that, a canon pairing is one that is accepted by all viewers as being true in the anime. For example, in Gundam Wing the canon pairing is Treize and Une, but one of the many non-canon pairings is Treize and Zechs. Sure, many may prefer the non-canon pairing, and it isn't that hard to see where it comes from, but it's still not accepted as the 'true' pairing in the anime, so it's not canon.
Another example - in fanfiction again - in YYH it is canon that Hiei is half koorime, and that he uses fire 'magic' rather than ice magic. A lot of people think this makes him a fire demon and claim that his father (the other half) was a fire demon. Lots believe this, but not all because it isn't canon - it is not stated in the anime and so it's just speculation. There is plenty of backing to show that he probably *is* half fire demon and half ice demon, but no where in the anime or manga did they say that, and Toriyama doesn't say it either. He's 'fire demon' in that he uses fire attacks, but that does not prove his father was a fire demon. Anyone who supported that theory would be buying into a 'fanon' concept that is not stated/shown/proven/true to the canon of that anime. Now, if enough people decide that this *is* true whether it's stated or not, then it might become canon eventually.
I know there are other definitions for the word canon, but I do think Ryu-Inuluver was referring to this one - in which non-canon means not stated or 'true' in the anime. A non-canon pairing would be any one that is not the 'official' pairing in that anime. Another interesting example from Gundam Wing - a lot of people believe the Heero/Relena pairing is an official pairing. But it's not, and has been disclaimed by the creator of the anime, there is no 'official' pairing for either Heero or Relena. Which means the Heero/Relena pairing is actually fanon and created by fans the same way many 'yaoi' pairings are for that anime - they're just 'close friends' in the anime, according to the creator. But since almost all viewers (fans) believe they are an 'official' pairing, it's considered canon.
So...canon for me is what almost all viewers/fans believe to be true. And with pairings that's usually the 'official' pairings that the creators attest to. So most yaoi pairings that match up people who are 'just friends' in the anime are not part of the canon. YYH was an exception a few years back, but now that it's been dubbed fewer people believe there is a Kurama/Hiei pairing. It doesn't have enough support to be canon or 'accepted' anymore. This does go with your definition, though - a 'standard' and something that isn't unusual. Since majorities decide what is canon (or 'typical') then it makes sense that the minority fans who have different pairings are considered outside of the canon.

YYH
Arigatomyna
I wouldn't call it my definition. Just a simplification of the actual definition.
In most shows with demon hierarchies and class ratings it seems like characters are created and then ordered later. It seems like an after thought. Hiei stays in question because he is a half brother.
Character development is usually done first. I don't know about YYH though.
I think they (creative staff, as it is normally a team with a Director) just wanted to make Hiei a total bad ass.
Never smiles at funny things, wears black, speaks little, never yells, uses unnatural flame colors to disintegrate people, and uses a sword.
I think the origin tends to come later as an after thought.
I don't think you ever see his transformed self after he is no longer an antagonist. Protagonist can't be green and sinister with a gruff voice. After awhile you tend to forget about his ugly evil not cool self that lacks that sort of dark elegance. He becomes more powerful than before and never transforms.
I think it was a case of a cool character that just stuck around. I think Vegeta, #18, and Hercule(funny dork) were probably the same way. Characters that just stuck when perhaps not originally intended.
Still like I said Kurama and Hiei really isn't that weird.
If your going for fame Sailormoon is full of them, 'fanon'. (Some proven through slight artistic hints, but still denied by hardcore girly Sailormoon fans (can you say repression). The kind most people miss due to the speed. There and gone kind of hints like the blips in Fight Club. Opps broke two rules. Also repeated and I mean frequently repeated circumstances.)[/b]

Alright, remembered some others I like:
Tai and Kari (Digimon)
Yuri and Athena (King of Fighters)
Nabiki and Kuno (Ranma 1/2) Although she'd probably just date him just for his money.
Ami and Rei (Sailor Moon)
Serenity and Duke (Yu-Gi-Oh) Or, does it become official later in the series?
Chdori and Tessa (Full Metal Panic) I'll admit I haven't read/seen a lot of the manga/anime, but I still like this couple.

Scouts

I always got thought there was a vibe between Mako (Jupiter) and Ami (Mercury).
A lot of circumstances take place that seem to point in that direction.
Of course Ami and Rei goes under opposites attract.
I always thought Rei was one of the mostly straight scouts.

Re: Scouts
Heh, her and Usagi remind me of Kagome and Inuyasha - so if you go by the het standard for relationships, they'd be a typical pairing (only they're both girls, of course).HeavyMetal wrote:I always thought Rei was one of the mostly straight scouts.
