You haven't made it to half my age.

Why feel embarassed? Is anime less of an art form than a live movie? Is it less intelectual or adult than the movie "Dumb and Dumber"? Is it more sugestive than many sitcoms?
 Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

Your org name suits you, old man! First off, I'd like to state that you made some very good points there, and secondly...will you adopt me...?
I'd like to have some family that likes anime...

It's kind of pathetic. These are the kids who make fun of kids who still like "cartoons" and don't run around pretending to be 21 on the weekends.

I know a few kids who drink and do drugs and make perfect grades because they're freaking prodigies. School bores them, so they turn to the wrong things to occupy their time, which really bothers me. Especially since one of them is a good friend of mine....
Yes, that's what I ment! That's also why I put "usually" and "not all." I know there are some cases like that, but I was mainly referring to the people to drink and do drugs to look cool or bad ass and brag about it when really they aren't being themselves, but istead feel like they have to prove themselves to a select group of people. Sorrie if I offended anyone, that wasn't my intent; I know the how it can feel for one of my friends family is broken due to drinking and drugs and my cousin died at a young age due to drinking and another one of my cousins will have to live with his decision he made the rest of his life...

When Big-O was playing on Sunday nights and my mom would visit my hosue I would watch it and she was upset and thought it was wrong for me to be watching cartoons.

I explained they were not cartoons and watched anyways. After about 3 weeks she was watching and asking questions. She complains that I spend too much time wathcing anime but she doesnt call tehm silly cartoons anymore.

You've made some of the best statements in this thread.

It's just a shame that too many people feel like they can't be "accepted" by their "friends" if they tell them they're into anime... :?

I'm not about to give up anime for the sake of what people think (anime is a drug for me. If I were to give it up, you'd find me having a seizure in a ratty old cardboard box withing a month of giving it up). I think most of us aren't about to give up anime becuase of what other people think.
The reason I'm embarressed about it is that, if I mention to people that I like anime, they tend to think less of me (I know that sounds friggin' shallow), or give me a weird look, since anime tends to be under rated and misunderstood (as stated many times before;people either A.) Think anime is for kids; B.)Think that pervy geeks watch it for their own "personal" reasons or C.) All of the above [since they can't get girls of their own])
So when people make an assumption that I'm like that, I get a little embarressed
Sorry if this post sounds extremely self-centered  :?

Thanks Cloud, age has it's benefits, been there done that. I was into scifi when I was in school, movies and books, others thought I was a little strange. Then later came Star Wars and the whole scifi movie revival and it became main stream. I was just ahead of my time.

You missed it, we watched You're Under Arrest and Tokyo Godfathers, both good. Y. U. A. is two cop girls, quite funny especially when you get to the parts with Strike Man "defender of morality", a great comic character.
Tokyo Godfathers, a very funny anime, with some good moral stories woven into it, where three homeless characters find an abandoned child and decide to find it's mother. A good one to show those who don't like wild action movies. Keep on watching. :D :D
