I'm glad you appreciated them so much you had to work in an insult to my video in the process.
First off, I've never seen Hoshi no Koe, so obviously some of the video is lost on me. But you shouldn't assume that the viewer has seen the show, especially when submitting to a contest, and especially with an obscure show like that. I've never seen Golden Boy, but I still really liked the Golden Boy drama video, as I said in my review.
And despite what you may think, video quality has very much to do with how well a video may be received. When you blow up a video to the size of a projection screen, every single little detail gets magnified to the point where it makes it a big deal. All the people around me noticed the problems, even people who had no idea what "interlacing" was. It detracted from watching the video. Would you expect a film shot with horrible lighting, bad film, and bad camera angles to tell it's story properly? The technical part doesn't make a video good, necessarily. The technical part prevents the video from becoming bad because of technical flaws. Of all the videos in the finals, only 2 had really poor video quality. Yours was one of them.
If the video has personal undertones that you don't expect people to understand, why expect them to or get upset about it when they don't?

Fanime has not even HAD Judges choices farther back than last year. It began when Scott took over the contest in 2003.

Whoa whoa whoa, I'm not trying to make fun of your video at all here. I have yet to see it, so obviously I have no right to make any comments on my own about the video. I'm just restating what I've heard. The first thing I did after I made this post was ask someone if they thought that what I said was offensive, and they said slightly, so I'm sorry for saying that. However, you were brutally honest with my video, and I felt that I should as well. I think all AMV creators have room to improve, and one of my big problems is how people receive my videos, and because a lot of people here have room to improve, and you yourself said that people (I think it was Catalysm) didn't think you could make a good video for a while, and several people here have said that they didn't like your video. I really was not upset that people didn't get my video, and I was rather shocked that I made the finals because I didn't think the video was going to be received very well. While I am happy that I did make finals, I've stated numerous times how I'm not surprised it didn't win. Just making a couple people enjoy my video makes me happy, so I was not upset to have lost in competition, or that some people didn't enjoy it.
I respect everyone's opinion, and I thanked you for your comments, because even the cruelist criticism can be a good criticism. Thanks for explaining the technical details about my video better, and again, I'm really not trying to be mean here, but things are getting ugly here, so I'm gonna have to back down soon.

anyway, on the subject, Ermac is right when it comes to video quality. It means a lot. I was cringing when i saw the scanlines and other various video problems that several videos had. They really distract you and remove any story or concept you are trying to follow, at least for me it does/did.

Video quality definitely does matter. When I outputted the Windows movie maker contest from my video out card to my tv, my judges who haven't seen much or any amvs prior to that time noticed bad video quality right away. Even normal people catch onto it.Pwolf wrote:/me looks at Ermacs avatar...

The guides here explain quite well how to remove any type of interlacing. I guess in ermac's absence, not many people have been telling others to Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a> for a while.
