Why everyone hates dubbers? :?

I'll admit that most of them are bad, but a few of them are done really well, some even outstanding. Hellsing, Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Akira, Lain, Escaflowne etc. are all excellently dubbed.

DBZ and Yu-gi-oh are horribly dubbbed IMO

Well, I agree that most older anime isn't dubbed that greatly. But, presently companies and the people who produce anime for us in the US (or wherever you might be living) have been doing a darn good job of dubbing anime. They're paying attention obviously to the details to synchronize the voice actors/actresses voices to the mouth flaps of the anime.

As for being a fan of sub or dub, I'd truely have to say dub. Mainly because that's the kind of anime I first started watching, and I'm not sure about others, but I get real annoyed when trying to read all the subtitles while trying to figure out what's going on. When I read something, I get real in-depth with reading it, so I have a hard time paying attention to the actually drawing part of the anime...yet, if I can't have dub, *sigh* I guess sub would do...

If you do two horrible things, and one alright thing, people will hate you for the two horrible things.

But even if there is a large majority of dubs that one considers good, they'll often still hate the repulsively bad dubs like DRAGONBALL Z.

Personally, there are very few dubs that I own that are listenable. Noir is the only one that I can really recall. If I have watched it in Japanese I usually have a hard time watching the dub, because I know I'd enjoy it more in Japanese. But Noir's dub is entertaining for a change once in a while, and I usually enjoy dubs if I haven't seen the Japanese.

The biggest reason I dislike dubs is how... off... they feel.

Early dubs had the problems of bad voice actors and poor translations, both of which have improved light-years since only a few years ago.

The more recent dubs have slightly different problems. Because the emphasis recently has been on matching lip flap exactly, the rhythm and cadence of the speech has been utterly shot. The resulting dialogue sounds very stiff, emotionless, and stilted to me.

There have been very few dubs that I've seen that manage to replicate the emotion and cadence that the Japanese audio tracks have. (Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are the ones that come readily to mind.)

Because of my desire to hear a natural rhythm to the characters speaking, I stick to subtitles.

Musically inclined as I am. I have simply one qualm with English VAs. Though there are exceptions, I find that most do not change their voice to change emotion, they mere increase/decrease volume. Many have TERRIBLE pitching as well.

I've only found this prominent with most english VAs though.

That's about the same way I feel. They just feel . . . wrong. And Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are done quite excellently, and are probably the best dubs that I can think of as well. One of the others though that I thought was very well done, however, was the dub for Trigun.

Personally, I would rather have a dub. I prefer to watch the animation rather than having to read the lines. I agree that some dubs have been poorly done but they are improving. I met three voice actor, and actresses, at a con and learned the difficulties they have. It is very hard to make a dub work and look convincing. I'm very happy that dvd allows us to have the origional with sub and a english dub on the same disc.
