Surreal, Stream-of-consciousness AMVs?

Post by Melbourne Mew Mew » Wed Jun 09, 2004 4:01 pm

Okay, I'm thinking of using Russel Morris' "The Real Thing" for an AMV. Given that the nature of the song is so surreal/psychadelic/trippy, the usual "matching lyrics" approach isn't going to cut it, and I'm going to need to go for a more stream-of-consciousness approach. I have a few ideas for what anime to use as scource footage (End of Eva, Utena, FLCL) but more suggestions would be appreciated. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for AMVs using a similar "stream of consciousness" approach that I can use for inspiration/pointers?

In case anyone's interested about the lyrics, you really have to have heard it to get the feel (Morris described it as a cross between "Honky Tonk Man" and "I am the Walrus"), but the song goes for six minutes, and they basically consist of repetitions of:

Come and see the real thing,
Come and see the real thing,
Come and see.

Come and see the real thing,
Come and see the real thing,
Come and see.

Is there a meaning there?
Is there a meaning there?
Does it really mean a thing?

Come and see the real thing,
Come and see the real thing,
Come and see.

I am the real (ooh!) thing (ooh!)

You might want to stick with just one anime. Stream of conciousness tends to be rather ummm random as it is and using multiple anime would probably make it appear even more so.
