In my experience, it depends. I usually don't bother to price match and just go for whoever has what I want the cheapest. That being said, some haggling is allowed...for example I got some money off a CD once for buying some manga with it, and another time I got a couple bucks off some action figures because I bought a full set of them. The more you buy the more likely you are to get a deal, but try to keep it small (ie 2 plushes are $8 each, see if they'll let you do 2 for $15...the things cost 200 yen each to buy direct from japan so usually they'll give in...)

Price matchign really does depend on teh dealer. I got one guy who wouldn't even match a damaged action figure he had for sale while another dealer was willing to cut $50 off of the Fushigi Yuugi Box set for me to beat another dealer. Don't be afraid to haggle. And yeah, $300 should cover enough spending to be happy with your purchases, like I said there, there will still be things you wish you brought money for no matter what.

I'm in retail myself (selling Macs, muhaha) so I understand how the theories work. I just wanted to make sure the dealer rooms weren't a special case. I've been through several dealer rooms in my time but I have actually never bought in there there but I'm thinking of going for some wall scrolls this year at AWA. Thanks for the info, this is a cool thread.
