Getting back on topic, I've got a question that's been bugging me for a quite some time (I don't think this is much of a spoiler, but it's the begining of a new saga. So, to prevent any more conflicts) -
spoiler wrote: The Makai saga - I can understand why Kurama and Hiei are both invited by Yomi and Mukuro to fight with them in this new tournament, but I'm not really understanding Yusuke's role in it. From what I've seen, before he leaves to the Makai, he kind of gets harassed by this "rubber-bald-man", and speaks a few times with a woman who looks like Sensui, and so forth.

As I've said before, the episodes I had were not the greatest for really understanding the plot - and I can't find summaries of these episodes online.

Wow. ^_^;; You must have had *really* bad translations of the Makai saga. I'll give you a run-through.
Makai arc spoilers wrote:Okay, at the end of the Sensui fight, Yusuke heard a voice and his hair got long, marks appearing on his body. What happened was that his father (distant ancestor really, but they call it his 'father' in the anime) is a demon. It's a rare thing where a demon mates with a human and the demon blood skips a dozen generations before coming back just as strong as the original demon. Meaning, Yusuke, who was formerly as strong as Kurama or Hiei - A class, suddenly tapped into his demon inheritage. That made him a full-blown S class demon, just like Sensui was an S class human. The difference? Yusuke didn't defeat Sensui, his 'father' did - Raizen, a thunder god demon who was currently ruling one third of the Makai. He noticed Yusuke and took over his body, essentially *forcing* Yusuke to kill Sensui. Yusuke was very very angry and upset by that, so he wanted to stay in the Makai and look for Raizen. Koenma warns him that if they don't go back to the human world, like 5 minutes ago, they'd be stuck there. Yusuke is given a choice and (as he says), of course he chooses to go back to the human world.

After that, Yusuke stops going to school. Koenma runs away from the Reikai because his father, Enma, put warrents out for Yusuke's capture - because he found out Yusuke is part demon (and he killed Sensui, a human - that old 'demons can't kill humans' law). While Yusuke is wandering around and griping about not getting to find and beat up Raizen, Raizen's men come looking for him - those rubber guys. They want Yusuke to come back to the Makai because a war is about to break out between the three co-rulers, Raizen, Yomi, and Mukuro. This war will break apart the demon world. Yusuke doesn't really care about Raizen (not liking him for what he did to Sensui), but he wants to fight him so he agrees to go. Yomi knew Kurama and naturally requested him. Mukuro had only heard of Hiei, but she wanted him because of his fame (as the 'forbidden child' and because of his association with Kurama and Yusuke - she didn't want him apposing her side). So they all three take opposite sides and go to the Makai.

Yusuke goes to see his father, who is starving and dying because he won't eat anything (he wants to eat humans, if he can't have them he won't eat at all - and he can't eat humans because he swore he wouldn't after he had sex with Yusuke's human 'mother' - the ancester woman in the flashback). Well, Yusuke and Raizen hit it off (the fight) and Yusuke starts training. Later, Raizen takes a bite out of him (yummy human ;p ) and then dies of starvation (Yusuke told him to just eat him if he was that hungry but Raizen decided not to ;p ). Instead of fighting Yomi and Mukuro for rights to rule the Makai, Yusuke decides to hold the tournament.

If you're wondering why he didn't want Yomi or Mukuro to rule, it's because of the 'human-eating' problem. Yomi is all for demons eating humans, he wouldn't mind that one bit (which is just another reason Kurma betrays him - not just because Yomi threatened his mother, but because he wants to eat humans). Mukuro doesn't care to eat humans, but she wouldn't stop demons if they chose to do so. Hiei never quite 'liked' humans after what one of them did to his sister, so he could care less as well (sad, but true - now, if demons wanted to eat his human friends, he would argue, but strange humans - didn't care about them). Raizen was stronger than Yomi or Mukuro, so he'd been keeping demons from eating humans. Once he got weak from starvation (it took a *really* long time, centuries since Yusuke's great ancestor halfbreed was born), and then died, it left Yusuke to defend the Makai from falling into Yomi or Mukuro's hands. And of course, Kurama was secretly on his side. Surprisingly enough, Mukuro was also in favor of Yusuke ruling the Makai. She would rather have *anyone* but Yomi rule - old rivalry, they hate each other. And she read Hiei's memories so she likes Yusuke and Kurama (note her teasing Hiei about them during the tournament). So she's like the 'neutral' party.

But yeah, that about sums up where each of the three stand, and Yusuke's envolvement. Any more questions, feel free to ask. ^.~

If you were going to be drunk, wouldn't it make sense to spend your time doing something more....exotic....than sitting at home posting on an anime forum? How strange.....

Hm, oh well! *Shrugs and walks off*

Yeah next time friends drive me home drunk from a party I shouldn't log on and post a few messages here and there before going to bed, instead I should like find my car keys and go driving all over town looking for someting a lil more "exotic" than sleeping it off...and you know, maybe I can KILL A FEW PEOPLE in the process. `, \

Hey Cloud Clone, do the world a favor...don't ever drink.

On a more on topic note, who here thinks that Yu Yu Hakusho might have been even better if they had thrown in some more filler type eps involving the relationships of the characters (like between Yuske and Keiko) and more stuff involving their school/private life. I've only seen up to episode 82, but it just seems odd in that it's like they never go to school, you would think that principal guy would be more interested as to why. In fact so far that's been one of the major disapointing things about the series for myself. They started out developing his character and so forth but then they just sorta dropped him.

I don't plan to.

Anyhow, I agree that it would be interesting to see more into the everyday lives of the characters besides the fighting demons all the time.
Spoiler (?) wrote: The episode where Kuwabara needs to keep from fighting to help his friend keep his job is a nice mixture of both elements, IMO

I don't mean to throw this off topic (I'm sure it'll realign in a day or two), but I just wanted to bring up a few things about drinking that I'm assuming a lot of you don't know (because as far as I know most of you are underage and your only exposure to alcohol education has been from the backwards DARE program).

Number 1, drinking is not about driving an expensive car down the strip at Vegas or partying with girls that have huge tits. It is not in any way "exotic". At least not any more so than say going to the movies with friends.

Number 2, most young people (under 30) over the age of 22 drink socially at least once a week or every couple of weeks. I myself usually get rightly fasnickered every Friday or so (unless I have other plans or things that I need to do).

Number 3, drinking at home with a few close friends and family is a LOT more fun that going out to some party full of assholes, half of which you don't know and most of the rest you wish you didn't know.

Number 4, if you drink at home with friends and family, you don't risk doing REALLY stupid things like driving drunk and killing people.

Number 5, know your limit. There is no such thing as being drunk, drunk. Once you get drunk, you can't get any drunker, all you can get is sick, pass out, have a horrible hangover and possibly even die of alcohol poisoning. Free cl00, if you wake up with a hangover...yeah you probably drank too much. So the point is that once you get sufficiently inebriated, STOP DRINKING, cause you're not gonna get any MORE drunk, yer just gonna be a fuckhead.

Number 6, if you have a lot of Indian heritage, DON'T DRINK! Your physiology can't take it and you'll probably wind up becoming an addict. This has to do with the fact that the white man has been drinking beer for like thousands of years where as the red man didn't even know it existed until we brought the shit over here...which was less than 300 years ago. In other words, the white man has had THOUSANDS of years to build up a natural tolerance towards alcohol, where as the red man has not.

Number 7, if when you drink you become angry, aggressive, stupid, and generally speaking an absolute ass clown...DO NOT DRINK! Cause yer the kind of retard who ruins it for everyone else. You're also the kind of retard whose likely to come home and start beating your family.

Number 8, ANYTHING not done in moderation is an addiction. Whether it's going to the movie theater EVERY day of the week or getting drunk EVERY day of the week, they are no different, either way you have an addiction.

Number 9, NEVER, EVER, FUCKING EVER drink because you don't like the way you feel. The ONLY time you should ever drink is when you are feeling like a million bucks. When you're happy and you know it, yeah, go ahead and pop a cold one. If you're feeling shitty and depressed, DO NOT DRINK! Because that's how you become an addict.

There now, any questions?

Um, if you're going to talk about drinking, at least tie it into Yusuke's drunk mother, or the drunken ex-rekai tantei woman he meets later in the anime. You can mix real life 'moral lessons' with anime, that's fine. But going off on a tangent about drinking in general has nothing to do with the thread, the forum, or the org - and I'd rather you didn't lock the thread (then someone would have to make another and we'd get complaints about repeated topics  ).
