VirtualDub + HuffyUV = ACRASHA!
I am attempting to convert VOBs to AVI with VirtualDub and Huffyuv, but I get a crash every time I try it. I can give the details of the crash message, but does anyone know of any compatibility issues between VD and HUV? I'm using VD 1.4.8 and Huffy 2.1.1. I also just noticed that I get the same crash using the Cinepack Codec. Is there a problem with 1.4.8 that I should know about?
Thanks

Hey, here is a thought - how do you open your VOBs in VirtualDub? I am creating an AVISynth file to open them like I would to use them in Premiere per ErMaCs guide. I also know I can use the VOBs directly in Premiere, but I was hoping to convert clips from the VOBs to DV so I wouldn't have to keep the huge VOB files around (only have 30 Gigs to play with Maybe it is AVISynth that doesn't like Huffy...

I usually use smartripper or do a straight copy if the dvd isn't protected. And then I use dvd2avi v1.7.6 to make a d2v project. And then I make an .avs file and write something like this:
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\MULTIM~1\GORDIA~1\mpeg2dec.dll")
mpeg2source("C:\temp\Angel Sanctuary\ep1_sc02_meet_kurai.d2v")
BilinearResize(320,240)
I use vDub 1.4.7, open .avs from the menu and convert to HYUV 2.1.1 w default options if I want to make .avi
Never had any problems so far. My comp's running WinME.
Oh yeah, my avisynth is version 1.0.7.4

OK, finally found my problem - should have seen this before. I finally noticed that the AVI file after the crash is always 3.99 Gigs. Now, I made the silly assumption that a compressed file would be smaller then the actually VOBs. I KNOW people warned me that Huffy creates unGODLY file sizes, but I underestemated them. I was also converting in 720x480, which is maybe a tad too big. I can't even convert 10% of a typical 4 episode DVD before it hits 4 Gigs. If I reduce the size of the frame, or convert just a teeny tinny bit of the video, it works fine as long as I keep the output file size unger 4Gig. Anyone else ever see this problem?
Thanks for all your help.
