Rah Xephon: The Motion Picture

Post by Lone Wolf » Sun Aug 01, 2004 7:25 pm

I just bought this today. Well, I thought the TV series was hard to understand, and this movie goes right along with that thought.

***SEMI-SPOILERS AHEAD***
(I don't know if it's big enough to ruin someone's enjoyment of it)
SEMI-SPOILER wrote:I was watching it, and when certain scenes came up, I was like "Hey wait...that's not what happened in the series". This happened a lot. I thought a lot of the changes were bizarre and interesting. I actually didn't know it was gonna be changed so much until I saw it. In the notes I read, I learned that "Pluralitas Concentio" really means "Plural Universe" or something similar. Now that I know that fact, I can understand the movie a little better. It still confuses me to Hell, though.
Overall, it was really enjoyable and it gave more information to understand the original story.

This gets the Lone Wolf Seal of Approval.

So is it safe to say that forget everything about the TV series and treat it as a stand-alone movie?

Hmmm, I'd say it's more of a series recap. The way I saw it, it seemed as though it showed you the events that would made up the critical spoilers of the series. Ok, that's confusing here's an example...
Spoiler wrote:The movie starts off showing the relationship between Mishima Haruka and Kamina Ayato and follows through highlighting some of the major plot points of the story.
I liked it, it filled in some of the holes that you never saw in the series and then tried to explain the theory behind it.

No. Not at all. Most of the movie is based from what happened in the series. It has a lot of scenes that are taken directly from the series. Other parts are completely new animation, and still other parts are how I described in white in the original post. The movie's actually even being sold in a boxset where there's two compartments: one slot for the movie, a divider, and a 7-slot-wide opening for the 7 TV series DVDs.

Actually, when I went to Best Buy, I was looking for Azumanga vol. 3 but it wasn't there. I also noticed the Eva: Platinum edition boxset and individual DVD. I was actually gonna get the individual DVD BECAUSE IT INCLUDED A KICK-ASS STICKER THAT HAS THE NERV LOGO AND SAYS PARKING PERMIT! (The boxset includes this too) I saw that and I was like "sweet!" I want that sticker so bad. I will sooooo put that on my car.

Another cool thing that happened was a wrong pricing. On the RahXephon movie cover, it said $19.99 but when I went to pay for it, it rang up like $16.XX! (Whatever amount of cents...I forgot) After tax, I only had to pay $17.XX! I was like "COOL! I'm not gonna say anything and see if I can get away with this." Well, I did. Sweetness...saved me some money.

I couldn't figure out what a Mu was from the series. Is what a Mu is defined in the movie? Please tell me what a Mu is.

As far as I know, a Mu is a giant blue monster with a huge mouth with lots of teeth and antenna.

Is a 'Mu' just a follower of the way of the Mu? o_O; I don't think it was ever explained what the hell was with the blue blood, either.

Mulians or "the Mu race" are the people with blue blood that have taken over Tokyo and sealed themselves in with a barrier that's called Tokyo Jupiter. Regular humans have the red blood.

And most of them aren't physically present in Tokyo, but they merge with the humans. (Merge isn't the word used, but I can't think of the actual one at the moment ^^;;)
Spoiler wrote:Think Asahina for example, she was a human, who's Mulian couterpart 'merged' (for lack of a better word) with her, and thusly when Ayato smushed the Dolem she died with it.
