Is Excel Saga worth getting?

Post by billy_wires » Tue Aug 03, 2004 6:54 pm

I hate asking such a crappy question, but would anyone recommend Excel Saga? If my sources are correct, it is a comedy, and it parodies other popular animes. In order to answer my question, besides a simple yes, could anyone list the anime it parodies and/or other anime that if someone liked that particular anime they would like Excel Saga (god I worded that like shit)?

I'm in the VAST minority...

But I found the first volume moderately amusing at best, and the rest of the show so boring that I never watched the last volume. Lots of people swear by it, though, so feel free to rent the first couple volumes, or something...

excel is a comedy....as welll as insane & whacky....but is it worth getting?
people might say yes.....but i have to say its something worth renting or just to borrow....doesnt mean to say its crap....i thought it had a great start....something really different from other anime series....my favourite episode is probably the 4th 1 so i wouldnt mind buying the 1st dvd or 2.......but then it just got TOO crazy for me later on in the series as well as boring....if you think you can handle it then go for it...increase your collection ('',)

If you like slap stick comedy, then yes, get it. The humour ranges from innocent/slapstick/twisted.

As for parodies and subliminal messages, that's basically all the show is. (Besides the loosely followed plot line about concurring the city ;) ) In fact, if you add on the ADVid-notes, you'll probably have to pause it at times to read them all.

It's very cooky and crazy. It's one of my personal favourite comedies. I found the manga to be somewhat slow mind you, but once it's animated, it's just brilliant in my opinion.

Well, I was in the neighborhood of Best Buy, and I thought to myself:

"Hey, 20% off anime!" So I got it for $50.10 (that's the price plus tax).

It makes me very sad that that's about the same price I got volumes #1-4 for off eBay... and at the time I thought I was getting a good deal

excel has its moments that are freakin hilarious that will make you laugh your head off! then it gets old real fast, they kinda do the same things over again. Lets just say that some things are funnier the first time around. If i were you i would borrow it from a friend first before buying it.
