how about a cap-off point
since you need, what now? 10 ops to be on the top 10% (sumtin like that)
and you need 3 ops to get an average
how about you set a certain number of ops, that once that number is reached, all ops become public

basically
new video comes out - of course starts at 0 ops
gets 3 ops - gets average score at bottom of page
gets 10 ops - becomes eligible for Top 10%
gets 25 ops - all ops become public since hopefully creator by now has an idea of what people think, so he/she really doesn't NEED anymore, and people can now simply read the ops if they want to, with such a number, it's almost a waste to let the creator know how you feel unless they specifically ask you or you have some sort of agenda where you MUST op the video!
If you're reading this, you've gone too far...PREPARE FOR RETRIBUTION!!
Don't judge an AMV by it's anime.. u nooB ;D

But if we implemented your solution, there wouldn't be much incentive to give ops past the 25th. And with the Bayesian average now used on the Top 10% list, that means that the chances of excellent new videos making it to good spots on the list (the spots they deserve?) would decrease quite a bit.

that's true
it would make it harder to climb the 10% ladder, what if we made the cuttoff higher though?
it doesn't have to be 25, if it's gonna have this much impact and if it's gonna take away the creator's right to hide his ops, then i guess we should make the cutoff high... like 50ish (number contribed from gazing at the top 10% and guessing at what would be a good number... actual number if implimented will vary)

Why take away anything? Why not give him the right to show more ops if he chooses to? Those who wish all ops were visible would immediately make all of theirs visible - others would see that and follow suit. People could still hide the ones they don't want seen by anyone who hasn't seen the vid (which eliminates spoilers for those who read the public reviews before watching), and those people who think they have enough reviews can make them all public.

That way no one looses any 'rights', and they get more freedom. Why enforce a new 'limit' - 25 before all are public - when you can raise the current limit instead? You get the same ability to see all reviews, only the creator chooses to give you that ability, instead of forcing him to. The creator would still have control over what he wants the general public to see.

Ops should be considered feedback for the creator, not entertainment for the bored.
