To answer the question in the thread's title... yes, I do dub or sub ^_^;;

I prefer subs, but i'll watch dubs if i'm bored and it's on the same DVD.

I haven't seen (or heard....) the SMJ dub. I'm pretty sure i'd be unimpressed with it, cos nobody could ever do Lime or Hanagata's voices right. Megumi Hayashibara rules! ^_^

I prefer subs. Most dub voices (especially female) just seem wrong. The men typically have gravelly tones to their voices, and the women typically sound too feminine. Perhaps some tonedown would be good for dubs.

I never would have goten into anime if it wasn't for Dubs.

One of the first (if not the first) anime that I really got into was Sailor Moon.

I had stayed up all Friday night watching whatever came on TV when at 6 in the morning Sailor Moon came on. At first I reached for the remote to change stations, but then I heard Serena's voice. I loved it. It was so beautiful to me that I sat up and tried like hell to find out what was going on in the plot.
Before I knew it, I was recording the show and buying the movies.

After that I had to see more anime. And I only bought Dubs (except for one Sub that I own) for the reasons I stated earlier in this thread, plus I like to critique the voice actors. Much in the same way you would for a live action movie.

I have never been let down by a Dub and the Akira Remastered Dub I thought was great. Not like that first Dub >_< Man was that bad.

Oh, and that whole "sue me" thing I said, I was joking.

-I never thought to mention that, but the same goes for me.

I started out watching Toonami and Adult Swim a LOT, so I used to watch dubs all of the time. Cowboy Bebop motivated me to look into what was available beyond Toonami; from there, I just started looking around for whatever looked promising (AMVs also helped by acting as advertisements). It wasn't until I started going to a weekly anime club that was very hard-core subs that I began to develop an interest in the subs myself. From there, I went through a transition period where I would keep switching between dub and sub while watching the series to compare the two and see what I liked better (Never do this; it makes it VERY difficult to get into the series or movie when the people keep switching back and forth from English to Japanese and vice versa. I've had a few that I hated when watching them this way [NieA_7 and Angel Sanctuary, for example] that I loved when I watched them a second time in one format). Eventually, I became the sub-preferrer that I now am.

That's my story, anyway.

We now return you to your regulary scheduled forum browsing, already in progress.

How dare you call it narrow-mindedness...

When I hear a bad-dub, it is locked into my head... I can "hear" those HORRIBLE voices when I watch the Japanese... I feel pained when I hear beautiful scenes torn to shreds by the wailing cries of bad voice actors and I am pained by the knowledge that there will be people out there who can't tell the difference. I mean...sometimes the voice directors decide to add their own jokes or overplay a scene or just change the dialogue all together.

I have had to suffer enough insult in the form of bad dubbing that I think I am well justified in making my choices.

Perhaps I should refer to you as beeing undiscerning and apathetic because you have no care what way you watch anime.

I don't think those comments really refer to you Uncle Milo. You said you liked a couple dubs ^_^ and you like them because they are good. If you watch subs for the same reason I do though, it's because that's how I feel anime was made so I want to watch it that way.

I have heard bad subbed anime. Princess Rouge was pathetic IMO. It's just that a lot of voice actors over there are relatively well paid..the famous ones at least so of course talent would be better too. Not that money makes you a better actor, but to make a living at 1 thing alone you'd have to be able to survive right? American and Canadian voice actors aren't exactly movie stars with tons of spending money so I have heard.

And this isn't a bad thread (well, it's rather contrite since it's been done many times before) but isn't read other people's opinions interesting? We can all agree to disagree at the very least

Oh my god, you guys are on crack! Saber Marionette J's dub is good HOW? Did I get the "Crap dub" version as opposed to the "good dub" version? Especially when compared to the Japaneses voies... It's lifeless, soulless, no talent, no feeling, monotone garbage!
