When people steal your clips

Post by AmazonMandy » Fri Aug 13, 2004 10:13 am

ok...i had a question about this once before, but now i am really boiling.

Another user has taken 2 of my videos i worked very hard on, and used the clips to create a new one of their own. I can tell they are mine, they are the same filters and special effects, often running for at least 30 seconds without any rearranging them or anything. Also, there are some i suspect are from other people's AMVs too.

The main AMV i had made they stole clips from is "To Hell And Back" by AmazonMandy (though i see clips from one of my others in there too), and the vid that stole it was: "Grant a rose for them all" by Blonde_luck.

WHat are AMV.orgs policies on this kind of thing? And how do most users feel about it when people do this?

i dont know if its really stupid, but its terribly inconsiderate. If you can't come up with footage and ideas of your own, why even make an amv?

I wouldn't care. Why would I? We borrow, mostly, both music and anime. Making AMV's is all about borrowing, atleast when it's fanart. But I'd never do it myself.

so you create all the footage and music for your amv's yourself ? and i supose you also make all the programs to edit and create the vid.

^ Well put, and I agree with Char the second, there's not much else you can do except send the guy/girl a death threat, but that will end you up in jail, where you will be raped by black guys because you didn't offer them your cornbread.

God what a long sentance.

I did. Ever use Vegas or Premier? Those are mine. I am in every band evar, and I drew every anime, did every voice, and directed every single one. I'm serious.

Also, I really wouldn't care. If they used the same footage and filters as me, but the clips looked the same, I would assume that they didn't really steal my clips, just my idea. Why? Double compression makes things look worse, or so I'm told. And if it does look crappy, well then it seems mine is superior. I win both times.

Thats dumb. Hes talking about stealing his effects straight out. If he bought the dvd, spent time ripping and encoding just to have someone steal clips from his/her video thats really inconsiderate. If you feel this way you should stop making AMV's yourself (if you do at all). Of course he/she doesn't make the footage herself, does that not mean what she created and put out to the public to watch isn't hers? Its not like we took it from the creators and just put up the whole episode. (I dont atleast) We bought the DVD which gives us special LOCAL rights to it in which we can edit for personal use. Sure we are not supposed to share them but where is the fun in that?!?!
