Why is it....

Post by Paradisio » Mon Aug 16, 2004 9:30 pm

Ok I am wondering, why is it that my 25 minute VOB is about a gig, but a 3 minute long fansub clip uncompressed is nearly 1000 megs?

Because uncompressed .avis are larger then VOBs, plain and simple. They use more space in order to make the same result, which is the reason they created DivX, Xvid, etc.

Because VOBs aren't uncompressed. They use MPEG-2 compression.

Yep, uncompressed AVIs are very big. VOBs use MPEG-2 compression, which is why they are so much smaller.
