Some more guides for the Guides page?

Post by Scintilla » Wed Aug 18, 2004 1:10 am

First of all, I'm of the opinion that Moonslayer's guide to the Org ought to have a spot on the Guides page... it covers pretty much everything, it's helped plenty of people already, and it would be a lot more convenient than having to fish through the forums to find a link.

Secondly, I'd like to nominate downwithpants's Getting to Know Windows Movie Maker 2 for the Guides page as well; it seems to me to be quite thorough and clear, and WMM2 is probably one of the most-used programs around here. (I'd also like to suggest my own guide to preparing footage for WMM2 be linked to alongside it, but that's probably less important than DWP's.)

I don't remember whether this kind of thing has been discussed before; if it has, I apologize. Are there any special criteria that have to be met before a guide can appear on the Org's Guides page?

Well, there's the Jerk Guide, which is actually close to completetion, lacking only a 'How To Just Barely Not Get Banned' section and better pictures.

Scarfac3 (aka The Member Formerly Known As son_goten) has promised said section plus some other content, and I'm willing to hold back the "gone gold" status until he gets it in. After all, he's kind of a past master of getting banned and coming back from bans....

As for pictures, the current ones have correct credits and might squeak by under fair use in a pinch. Of course, this could be obviated by some on-topic member art, should anyone want to gin some up.

The guide will probably go gold just in time to catch the fall crop of misguided souls arriving at university, that haven of fast connections for stealing source footage and acres of time to waste on internet forums.

How about the "How to Make a Good Banner" guide? Judging by the latest entries, we are in dire need of that one.

The guide pages are going to increase dramatically this weekend, if my plans go well:

I've been coordinating an org version of Moonslayers guide.

A new Mac section will be added.

The Member's Mini Guides section will also be created.

The jerk guide go up when the authors feel it is ready to.
