I'm quite casual as well, and you'd probably be shaking your head in disgust from the little amount of anime I have at home. I'm busy with school at the moment though, to really dedicate much time to watching it. Since I'm planning on going to Uni, it's not going to get much better. So I'm a fan, though not an overly obsessive fan.
Simplest way of putting it - if you like it, you're a fan. If you don't, well... you're not.

Yeah, same here!LightningCountX wrote:I consider myself a true dbz fan
ive watched the entire series an assload of times and its still been my #1 anime for the past 6 years. I collect the boxets, and collect the action figures, wallscrolls, etc. I dbz =)
I am not sure how you can define a "true fan", I think it is all in your own opinion. If you think you are a true fan, then you probibly are. I really don't think there are any real standards like, "Oh you have to watch anime for at least ten hours a week in order to be a true fan." That would just be ridiculous.
Anyway, I stick to my own opinion, if you think you are a true fan then you most likely are. Its just your own opinion.
That probibly didn't help much did it?

I can't figure out if people are talking about "true anime fans" or fanboys. Sounds pretty much the same to me. Probably something made up by fanboys to flex their anime coolness muscles. The same kind of people as script-kiddies running around on the internet claiming their 133t|\|355. Real hackers don't communicate like that.
Back to the focus....
The number of years one continually watches anime may be a better judgement, but still it's all hogwash to me. If you like it, watch it. If you can get others to watch it, even better!

First of no one can define what “true fan” of anything is like. Who can?
Just because you believe something is real doesn’t mean it is and just because other people say so isn’t much of a criteria either.
Not saying I’m a true fan but unless the Anime Kami tells me I’m one or the other, then its ok.
Personally I have no time available to check the newest anime nor do I own lots of anime DVD’s.
That doesn’t mean my inner enthusiasm is less than others. If it wasn’t for some threads here and Japan geared magazines then I wouldn’t know anything at all of the latest anime/manga.
The luxury of sitting and reading anything besides extremely large college course tomes is gone.
To me a true anime fan doesn’t exist because there will never be a fair way to judge each and every one.
Enjoying anime is much easier than trying to box people in.

Thats what I was trying to get at. That you can't really be judged, as there is no criteria to follow. You can't put a criteria to it. It's one of those things to which has no real definition.Kajino Rei wrote:First of no one can define what “true fan” of anything is like. Who can?

Why some try to define I'll never get.
Thank You, alas someone with a brain.Thats what I was trying to get at.
True, I said fundamentally the same thing. That you can't really be judged, as there is no criteria to follow. You can't put a criteria to it. It's one of those things to which has no real definition.
