ideas

Post by codehappykid » Mon Aug 30, 2004 10:16 pm

If I had the time or the material I would do these myself, but instead I'll just suggest them (list MAY contain spoilers):

1) The Animals of Anime! Ein from CB, Pen-Pen from Eva, Kuroneko from Trigun, and any others you can think of or find, together in an AMV. Don't know what song, but that can be worked out later.

2) Myoga the flea from Inuyasha! He never gets a break even in the series itself. Let's give him his proper due in AMV style.

3) A suggestion for which everyone in the civilized world will beat me senseless: BADGERS! Many of you probably have heard the semi-famous original "Badgers" by Weebl. Take the soundtrack and somehow make an AMV with it using lesser known or even episodal characters.

4) A list of characters that would make awesome AMV subjects: Chessmaster Hex (CB), Alan Gabriel (Big O), Sesshoumaru (Inuyasha), the sheriff girl from the second episode whose name I think was Marlene (Trigun), Zap Brannigan (Futurama) (bonus points on this one if you make him look like not such an idiot)

5) Record your own voice and/or that of other people you know and make up a dialogue between two side characters from different animes.

What kind of codes? Barcodes? Game Shark?

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Tue Aug 31, 2004 11:22 am

Hey, codehappykid, I read your post, and though I rather wish you had commented on something *I* had posted (as I'm the one who started the thread,) I do have some comments of my own for you. You had a number of suggestions that I wanted to respond to.

1. The Animals of Anime! - Here's a video for you: Hamster Dance Soundtrack - "Hamster Dance Techo Remix", titled "Mascot Dance," and edited by The Wired Knight. And, no, I didn't mispell techno; that's the way it was spelled in the creator's listing. It is, I think, exactly what you are looking for. It is very cute, and has gotten high marks from everyone who has reviewed it.

2. Haven't seen Inuyasha (though my older sister was a fan) so I can't help you there.

3. Yes, I have seen 'Badgers,' and while the idea seems very creative in thought, I think it would go over VERY badly in practice. The 'Badgers' Flash video was cute because of the creator's original animation, and I don't think putting random side characters to that track is going to have the same effect. In fact, I'm positive it won't.

4. If you want to see those characters in a video, I think giving out songs to go with them might be a better approach. Also, it's nice if you warn people that there isn't a lot of footage to work with. Letting an AMV creator know what he/she is getting him/herself into is always good.

5. I'm not sure if that idea has been done or not as an entire video, but if you want a laugh go check out Pokemon - "Dungeons and Dragons", edited by MeLkNiN. This was actually a real track from a CD somewhere, but I think that that is what would happen if your idea would be put into effect. A video that partially uses that idea is Ah! My Goddess - Iceman - "Shining Collection," edited by VicBond007. Just on its own it is an amazing video, but the opening is the really innovative part. The creator actually got a voice actress friend of his to do voice overs of two of the Goddesses (the ladies in the opening,) and then subtitled it to what she was actually saying.

Well, anyway, thanks for your comments. It's always nice to hear new ideas, and shed new light on topics. As always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

Thanks for watching 'em, I was kidding, mostly. Just because I like the idea of side-character videos and have done a few. ;) I'm actually a talentless hack when it comes to editing, but thanks.

The GHG one is a few down the line; next up I'm working on a Tenchi video almost without Tenchi, so hey, it's a start. ;)

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.

It's been done at least twice that I know of. I ain't linking to either I don't think either of them was that good (which depresses me considering who made the first one) but if you really want then a super search for the song title 'badger' will find both.

Check out "The Chibi Things that Kill" to the song "The little things that kill." I always appreciate things that are well done. This is multi-anime, and very special.

Okay, I'll meet you halfway there - What can one say about him? What song shows his story?

Been done before, and can be done again - Give me something witty to come up with. For others - There is a special website. You type words in, it gives you a wav file of your text! Instant dialogue! I can't find the old post where I had the good one, but there's at least one other one at Bored.com. Not as good voices though.

The first vid I saw with that audio is probably the best. I believe it's by Murf, the "musical artist" is the Deadale Wives, and titled "Inside DnD" or something to that extent. My favorite is mostly a bit of Kenshin, some Slayers and a bit from Eva and a very small bit from Trigun. The Lip Synch is absolutely perfect - has everything you could want.

PS Inu Yasha's lovely. You'd like it. Catch it.

<----------------HUGE BEATLES FAN

PS: There's a suggestion I've been trying to get done for ages.

I figure it for Cowboy Bebop, or anything with a dog, or heck, anything at all. It's called "Hey Bulldog!" a little known ditty from the Yellow Submarine soundtrack. It has a rocking beat that I think Spike would enjoy - but up to you. I'm sure I could help out with an mp3 if anyone's interested.

Hey Bulldog!

Sheep dog, standing in the rain, Bull frog, doing it again,

Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles

What makes you think you're something special when you smile

Childlike, no one understands, Jack knife, in your sweaty hands

Some kind of innocence is measured out in years

You don't know what it's like to listen to you fears

You can talk to me, You can talk to me, You can talk to me

If you're lonely you can talk to me

Big man, walking in the park, Wigwam, frightened of the dark

Some kind of solitude is measured out in you

You think you know me but you haven't got a clue

You can talk to me, You can talk to me, You can talk to me

If you're lonely, you can talk to me, Hey Bulldog, Hey Bulldog, Hell Bulldog,

Hey Bulldog, Hey Bulldog, Hey Bulldog

Well, if I'm not wrong I must be right...right?

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Wed Sep 01, 2004 7:39 pm

Well, I still didn't get any reply saying that my ideas were bad or unwanted, so I assume I'm doing this whole "AMV suggestions for the side characters" thing right. I'm going to suggest more, then, so be on the lookout for any anime you might recognize.

SarahtheBoring - Hey, I checked out your latest video (the YnM one) and I thought it was very good. Even without any flashy digital effects, you have a nice solid editing style with great timing and clear visuals. Actually, YnM is on my top ten list of favorite anime. I introduced it to my best friend, and now she just bought the rest of it recently. And hey, I'm a talentless hack, too, and far worse than you EVER were, I'll bet. ^_^ That's why you don't see ME taking up any of my own challenges.

Other than that, here are some more suggestions, these ones more devoted to X (as it is my second favorite anime ever!) Also...

WARNING! SOME OF THESE IDEAS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE SERIES, SO IF YOU SEE AN ANIME YOU DON'T KNOW HERE AND DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION LIKE YOU'VE BEEN SET ON FIRE BY KASUMI KAREN-SAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X TV, Neon Genesis Evangelion - Michael Jackson – “Little Susie” – Karen, Rei – while this song is just BEGGING to have a Karen video to it, I think it would also work well with Rei’s character. For Karen, this song could be taken on a very literal level, as many of the lyrics apply to how her childhood was. For Rei, though, the song works on a metaphorical level. It is a very beautiful and very depressing song, but it is very long (clocking in at 6:12.) The song is divided into three parts, though, which makes cutting it down VERY easy for those daunted by the task of using a song that lengthy. It has a choir in the first part, then it slides into a little girl singing to her music box, then there is a brief pause at about 2:50, and the real song starts. Without the first two parts, the song is a much more manageable length.

X TV – 12 Stones – “Broken” – Sorata/Arashi, Subaru/Seishirou, Hinoto/Saiki – While I would especially like to see the third couple’s story illustrated to this song, I also believe that the first two would be very appropriate for it as well (especially since the third couple wouldn’t have enough footage on their own, I think.) Otherwise, the song speaks for itself! It is very nearly ideal for these three couples! (Oh, and just so I don’t confuse anyone, I don’t think that Hinoto/Saiki is a truly romantic relationship, just one of high admiration, love, and respect...kind of like two best friends who are on the verge of becoming something more.)

All's quiet on the forum front...

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Sat Sep 04, 2004 7:47 pm

Well, I still haven't had anyone respond to me as of late, so I'll just add to the list of suggestions again. Last time my theme was X. This time it's an amalgam of anime. Also......

WARNING! SOME OF THESE IDEAS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE SERIES, SO IF YOU SEE AN ANIME YOU DON'T KNOW HERE AND DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN AS IF CELESTINE JUST DECIDED TO DESTROY YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah! My Goddess, Angel Sanctuary, Angelic Layer, Blood The Last Vampire, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Noir, Fruits Basket, Serial Experiments Lain, X, Yami no Matsuei, Yu-Gi-Oh! - Dead Can Dance - “Summoning of the Muse” – life-force/world-destroying creature (the one that Celestine created,) Rosiel, Alexiel, Katan, Kurai, Arakune, the three Fate Dragons, Kira, Misaki in Episode 25, Blood’s storyline, Gendo and Yui Ikari, Altena and Chloe, Kisa and Hiro, Momiji and his mother, Serial Experiments Lain’s storyline minus Lain herself, all of X’s characters minus Kamui and Fuma, Hijiri, Marik – I know that this list seems very long and some of the suggestions seem odd, but listen to the song and apply it to the characters and I think you’d understand why I’m being strange and specific with the character list. The song has words, but it is mostly an instrumental piece. It is ideal for a very depressing and beautiful video. Of course, not all of these characters/concepts would have to be used, but they would all fit the video in theory.

Ah! My Goddess, Angelic Layer, Chobits, Fruits Basket, Gravitation, Kare Kano, Neon Genesis Evangelion, X - Dishwalla – “Candleburn” – Morgan (and her lover), Tamayo and Kotarou, Ueda and Yumi/his persacom, Shinbo and Shimizu, Hatori and Kana, Ayaka and Hiroshi, Miyazawa’s parents, Rei/Yui and Gendo Ikari, Arashi and Sorata, Karen and Seiichirou, Yuto and Satsuki - this would be another romance/semi-romance video to multiple couples. The only problem is that some of the couples listed have enough footage to make an entire video (like Ueda and Yumi/his persacom), and others only have enough for a very short segment (like Ayaka and Hiroshi.) If you can ignore that little fact, though, I think this would make a very good video. If anyone knows the real story behind this song (as in, why the band wrote it [ IF they wrote it,] ) then please do tell; I’m curious.

As always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

I was actually just throwing the idea out there for Myoga...I don't think I can come up with a good song for that character.

Actually I'm inspired to give another try to making an AMV, and I think I'll run it in this contest of sorts. But first I have to pick up a CD I'm looking for, or get the songs from a friend. Then I'd need to borrow anime from another friend. Unless I tried something a little different, which I might do. Well, we'll see. Anyway, I may post here from time to time about it.
