what kinda stuff are people lookign for?

Post by odian0 » Sat Sep 04, 2004 10:51 pm

i was thinking about this the other day, and people amke amv's, then they get reviewed and people say what they wanted to have seen in those amv's. ya know, and unless people are willing to take the time to remake them, you never really get to see what you wanted to see.

so, i was wondering if people could tell me (and anyone else who reads this thread) what you liek in amv's and what you want to see in the future. also, what is overused (besides dbz, naruto and eva).

so, feel free to post anythings here that you want to see more of, never get to see any of, or what you never want to see again, just so amv makers have a good idea of what people are looking for, before their amv's are already made and being judged.

There's just one thing I want to see more of. Quality.

It's really hard to say. I mean, either I have an idea or I don't, and if I have an idea for a song and anime, that's what I want to see, but if I don't have an idea then I wouldn't know specifically beforehand. And sometimes the person who made it did it better than I imagined.

I can't be specifc, but I can say this: try to work in a story. I like story, and when I can tell what the relationships of the characters are without having seen the anime. Of course I like flashy effects and pretty, sparkly stuff too, but not quite as much. Oh, and try to stick to a single theme or idea throughout the video as much as you can with the footage you have available. It can be jarring if you don't. Another thing that can be jarring is to put two or more very visually different anime together in a serious amv.

...that's all I can think of. But really, you should stick to stuff you like as much as you can too - if you don't, you can't know that anyone will like it, but if you do, you can be assured that you'll like, if no one else, and that's more important.

Original, interesting concepts that are well-executed as well. Comedies preferred.

That, or videos that are just fun to watch ("Build Me Up Buttercup" and "Believe (<s>Kevin Caldwell</s> VicBond007)" come to mind). Always good.

Oh yeah, and don't forget the 80s music.

Overused? What's that? <s>Who's he?</s>

I've always been partial to a good character profile, especially if the character in question is underused in AMV's. Spice it up with some action, romance, comedy, or drama and you've made a winner in my book.

The Impossible Inquiry

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Sun Sep 05, 2004 1:44 pm

(Sorry, but this has to be mentioned.) I'm looking for proper grammar in a post. I find it hard to take your thread seriously; you have so many errors that make you seem far less intelligent than the question you have posed. I know that you are, indeed, an intelligent person, or you wouldn't have posted the question.

As for my answer, I think the problem with AMVs is that the quality of each one is subject to opinion. Some people say that overusing a particular song or certain clips from one anime is what makes bad AMVs. This is not true. I have found several amazing videos that were put to a song done 467 other times (that number being an exaction, not an estimate.) On the other hand, I have also seen a video put to a song that has never been done before on this website. It was awful.

To conclude, there is really no true answer to your question. The video simply has to be made before it can be judged. There is no video without flaws, and what a creator believes to be true of his/her own video may not be what others think. No two minds think alike, and thus a perfect AMV does not exist.

If you really want to know part of what I think, then feel free to check out a thread I started a short while ago. It is entitled "The Side Characters Challenge," (it is here in the AMV Suggestions forum) and it embodies a part of my thinking and would likely answer part of your question, as well.

Sorry I couldn't give you a more specific answer, but this is what I truly believe. So, as always, Farewell, Good Luck, and Happy AMV-ing!

final fantasy, video game vids, and other stuff for me ^_^

Post by MikaelJuha » Tue Sep 07, 2004 4:40 am

i'm looking for new amv buddies, mostly to compare and contrast my own and see if my amv making skills have improved or not. I like downloadin amvs then using footage (like small clips) from several of them and making a collage with them in this uber amv vid ordeal. I want to see more video game vids though...i know that's a bad thing to a great number of you who primarily love anime on this site and all. But i like seeing final fantasy vids a lot, mainly because they are pretty cool in visuals, but they're other games i'd like to see on this sight that also have good gaming footage, like doom3, farcry, or half life2 even. Yeah its uber off topic, but the gaming footage alone (to me :) ) is so darn good on a high quality settings, and if you mix it up with anime, so far the ones i've made are pretty cool, but overall it might be a new thing to look out for possibly if this sight ever does go in the gaming realms perhaps, but for the most part this sight will be strickly anime.
My strength is not that of the mountains, nor is as vast as the plains, nor does each wave crash upon the shore and thunder like lightning into my viens...but that which i can muster, and that which i will, i will bring myself foward into this world like no man has done before...
