Neon Genisis: Evangelion

Post by DarkMassacre » Wed Sep 08, 2004 5:22 pm

I've heard about this anime before but I haven't seen it. I've heard alot of good reviews though. So how is it? Also would you reccomend me watching it if I like Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, and other more mature animes?

Indeed I would; but Evangelion messes with your head (especially at the end).
Cowboy Bebop is truly a gem, with great/cool characters and the best music by Yoko Kanno (she rocks).
Wolf's Rain is also good.
Other mature anime? I guess, it depends on which "mature anime" you're talking about.

NO! messing with the head is good. if you really want to fry a few brain cells, watch utena the movie without seeing the series, OMG i about shot my brains out.

kenshin the OAV, vety thought provoking, in a "lets soak the ground in blood while were at it" type of way.

FOR THE LOVE OF PETE WATCH COWBOY BEBOP!!! and yes i would recomend to watch evangelion, and read it to! the anime and the manga both follow the same story but the manga shines a new light on the story. i quote from Yoshiyuki Sadamoto from evangelion volume 2:
Yoshiyuki wrote:
But the manga has a different approach.... the main point is the anime had quite a few different people writing the continuity... and when another assistant director wrote a continuity for the same script it came out completely different.
he also explains that Anno, the main director who wrote the scipt was the top of his class and an exemplary student. Sadamoto wrote that he thought evangelion has the feel of a flunk out and that Anno with his backround could never truly convey that. Sadamoto jokes that he never had that problem

I didn't mean that messing with the brain was bad, just stating a known fact about Evangelion.

Your line of thought here is very 2+2=4, mine's more of 1, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1...times 100.

Truly I know there's a difference between something that makes you think and something that's just going in circles.

Makes you think: albeit "hard" to comprehend (for some); it's relevant, intelligent, thought-driven, ect.
Example: Plato, Aristotle & Socrates.
Goes in circles: scams idiots into thinking it's a smart argument. In other word pure banality.
Example: The Creator's speech in The Matrix Reloaded.

ah ha!!! i finally have you, for you see, 2+2 = 22 math remains supreme!!!.

quiet true, except I was referring about the massive amount of symbolism throw into the movie, not the fact that most scenes wouldn’t make chronological (or any) sense unless you watch the series. I figured as much before hand. The series itself explains allot of the innuendo. I had fun watching the movie several times making sense of it all.

the creator is by far the best known example of someone talking for very long, but saying very little....

Wasn't talking about Evangelion, just a general view...
