Talentless Hack: If you've actually read the manga, you'd know it doesn' follow the same story. Fewer angels, different character developement, yadda yadda. Also doesn' help that that twit Sadamoto only chooses to update 'sporadically'. Personally I think is' on purpose after seeing vol8 after like 3 years before he made some comments about Rei/Shinji not being his intent. The dude's FUCKING wit us!

Sanosuke: One of the points of Eva was to see who someone realistic characters would react to a rather absurd situation. Tells me, how would you react to being tossed in a giant biomechanical weapon an' told to go save the world? You'd prob'ly piss your pants and cry a lot. Now go watch DBZ, thass apparently more your style.

Personally, I remember rather liking the scene with R/S in the courtyard that didn't exist in the anime...

Well, yeah, Sadamoto may be being very slow about finishing things up, but at least we have the Girlfriend of Steel 2 manga* for to tide us over until Volume 9's actually released. :)

*Disclaimer: contains a generally more shoujo style than normal NGE, over-dramatized moments, art style that's quite different from Sadamoto's, the prospect of Kensuke possibly becoming an Eva pilot, a whole new personality for Rei (well it IS based off the alternate reality in episode 26 after all), moments of inane dialogue and laughable/boring writing, a lot of stuff and junk and stuff, and other elements that people may not wish to mentally associate with NGE. Don't say I didn't warn you.

So the Eva manga differs from the series, and is still running? Is it any good or is the anime better?

As good as the anime is (especially the second half), I think I actually like the manga better. Too bad it's not, you know, animated. :|

I'll have to add it to my list then. I'll probably get to it after Kare Kono, or maybe during, as both are unfinished, to mix things up a bit.

Just to let you know, there are tons of people like you that didn't like Evangelion for the first few episodes. A lot of people don't like even the first 6 or the whole first half of the series. However, many of those same people, who watched the whole show, found out that it's actually one of their most beloved shows.
I'm one of them. I was about to stop watching after 10 or so episodes and deem the series "just another giant robot show". But the second half really blew my mind. Now that I'm watching it again, even the beginning feels a lot more interesting when I know what is going to happen and see little hints of future events here and there.

I've seen it a few times now.. and I like it... but I still don't fully "understand" it...

If you're looking for something clear-cut and logical, this isn't it...

However, it's still a very "cool" anime, the movie (End of Evangelion) in particular...

I didn't like Shinji at all by the way... but I think Asuka more that made up for it, she's one of my favorite anime characters...

If anyone can help me understand what the heck Evangelion was suposed to be about, I'd really appriciate(spelling?) it...

yeah i've read some of the manga, currently waiting to purchase number 2 and 5, but the point of bringing up the manga was that it casts a new light on the series. examples include in the first book when Misato decides to split up the chores is a WHOLE lot funnier than in the show... but of course the drunken yell just isn't the same without hearing it, heh heh...
