Thank you for finally pointing that out. It's all about the target audience, and how animation generally isn't made for the older crowd in the US (with some few exceptions... the Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park come to mind).

...and if you noticed, those 3 tend to be comedic rather than serious, for the most part.

But anyway, if you go to that page and read up on it, it's pretty clear the show is aimed primarily at something like 12 year olds and below - what could you possibly expect of it? Depending on where they take it, it could be pretty good for a kid-oriented show, I wouldn't rush the judgement.

In fact, look at it this way - maybe it's a good thing someone's finally making animation that's tailor-made for the american anime-kid audience, instead of chopping up Japanese stuff and offending the likes of us 'hardcore' fans

funny how people can agree whole heartedly on something, but can never communicate that.

i don’t think k will post here anymore, oto made his point but might post more, and ‘im done for the day. Everything has been said, people will just keep rearranging the word if you try to keep this thread going.

It's not as if Japan never is influenced by American styles...

I don't think Danny Phantom really copies the general Japanese style too much...at least not enough to say it was the real intention. I really don't see two many similarities between them at all. Same guys who make the Fairly Oddparents. I think it's simply the studio's style.

Granted there's a LOT of evidence that this studio knows its anime. A character in Danny Phantom does turn chibi for an episode because a ghost grants her wish to be sickeningly cute. And in the Fairly Oddparents movie, "Channel Chasers" there is a whole scene parodying the Dragonball series and just anime in general. The characters undergo such a blatent change in style. (Actually in that movie, the animators parody the styles of many shows including the Simpsons and Rugrats.) It's actually a pretty funny segment. You'd be surprised how many subtle anime jokes are in it.

nah nah parody i have no problem with, if it's funny it's usually a force of good.

and ok i wasn't sure whether or not it was from the same ppl, i just knew it wasn't the same creator as Fairly Oddparents, and seemed to be more anime-ish

There's still plenty of originality in artistic style on this side of the Pacific, just look at Samurai Jack. As far as Amerime, if that's what we're calling it, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's like cell shading in video games.

I have forgotten about that show. I really wish they would have finished it instead of leaving it hanging.

can't really say Samurai Jack is Amerime. it's a Samurai yea, but the style is very different. only thing that would even tie it to anime would be when they lay the scene on scene all manga style.

(in all honesty when i first saw it i thought it was the next step in Flash cartoons)

I wasn't saying it was. I was saying the opposite. We in America can still pull off our own styles without ripping off the Japanese. Jack was just one example of this. Remember the Batman the Animated Series, that's another example.
