Well, let's face it, the technology behind the gundams is a little fictional, and what they do in the anime most often is a massive exhaggaration (if not an all-out defiance) of the laws of physics, so I'd say it's pretty unlikely.
And anyways, as cool as they may look, I think walking mechs in general are, generally speaking, too complicated and unpractical to ever be used in actual warfare. There are far more practical and stable futuristic weapons platforms under development already, anyways...

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Yes, like lasers.
Nevertheless we can all dream, right?
Piloting a Gundam would be "cool" and useful to get good grades.
In the future...
Maybe.

Thus mortals dream. They did get that honda bot going up steps, imaging if we made one gundam sized, then it could say, go up a step pyramid or something, no cool gundam battles tho, and no flying. in a tactical setting, umm no, the maintenance on such a machine would make it useless. All those moving parts.....

Well, it's not just the moving parts, I mean you have to realize that right now, making machines taller is the last thing weapon designers would want to do. I can only imagine them trying to get a walking mech to fire any sort of cannon without falling over! And, aside from that, the tendency in most combat vehicle design tends to go towards making them as low-profile as possible - and as least visible and recognizeable from distance as possible! In the age when the ideal tank would probably be no higher (though much wider and longer, for obvious reasons) than a person, putting a huge humanoid figure on the battlefield (and consider the fact that the human brain would probably instinctively recognize anything resembling a person in a snap) would be pretty insane

Otohiko is absolutly right. Consider, if you had the tech to make a gaint humanoid robot, you could apply it to something far more practical like an aircraft, or a tank. It'd also be a lot cheaper. That doesn't make Gundams any less cool in my opinion, just more into the realm of fantasy.Otohiko wrote:Well, it's not just the moving parts, I mean you have to realize that right now, making machines taller is the last thing weapon designers would want to do.
