hmm really tough statements going around why a MS cant be built. I was waiting for you to ask how much fuel it would cost just to run it. When I thought about that i said, ya my dreams are shatterd. Must find a way to make new fuel, and besides if someone saw a 500 ft MS heading towards them they would all run in fear, they dont know what its weakness or its strength is, they just be like I aint gonna be here to find that out
If the army or navy ever looks upon heavens scenes, they would see that the streets are guarded by the United States Marines.

I think you missed the jokeGaavTheDemonDragonKing wrote:i know that MS its a gouf, those things sucked in Zeonic Front, their to slow, always got blown away by Guntanks

Well, I was waiting to see if anyone else got this first...but since no one appears to be answering:Zero Serenity wrote:Excelent job. You're suprising me. But I stumped you, so let's see if anyone get's this question!
When Kira has that sudden power boost when his pupils shrink, what's it called?
Heh heh heh.

Memory serves they just refer to it as Seed Mode
and, while I'm feeling sporting, here's a tricky one for you guys:
Not counting the 'Gihren's Greed' Char-custom RX-78, how many Gundams has Char piloted?
Duke: I promised myself I wouldn't make the joke...but what the Hell...

Yes Heero, you're right, but don't forget to capitalize SEED.
If memory serves me right, Char never piloted anything considered a Gundam.
GaavTheDemonDragonKing: Uh, MS barely breach 50 feet let alone 500 feet. You must be on the subject of Evas or something.
As for me, take the original RX-78-2, take away it's beam sabers and rifle. It's entirely possible to create a mobile suit at a comperable level of performance to it with today's technology. Sure, it be expensive, but say it's impractical? I have to differ here.
For example, mobile suits can stop in midair for any reason. On that note, they can turn around very quickly as well. Next, they can be like a mobile turret. I mean, with a semi-automatic tank cannon in hand and the ability to go just about anywhere...well, you draw your own conclusion. And what about for non-military purposes, like construction?
I think I'll stop now.

Well, stopping in midair is not instantaneous at all, you have to keep that in mind. At higher speeds, a basic breaking turn by an airplane generates huge stress on the airframe and the pilot. It also generates enough difficult-to-follow motion, so to say - then add thrust vectoring, and it has a greater degree of freedom in terms of alpha performance. Besides, there's helicopters that do that while being much smaller, more subtle, and generating far less heat output.Zero Serenity wrote: For example, mobile suits can stop in midair for any reason. And then, you're forgetting VTOL aircraft - for instance the Marine variant of the upcoming JSF aircraft will be, theoretically, able to stop in mid-air at fairly short notice (which basically involves slowing the aircraft down to appropriate speed - a few seconds, not much a difference from what a 'real-world gundam' would have to go through to stop in mid-air without over-G'ing), and turn pretty much in place.
But of course, just as Harriers never really did, it probably won't. Because an engine pumping out masses of hot air while hovering in place is a more-than-inviting target for IR-guided missiles.
And those missiles are also the reason the 'mobile turret' idea is impractical. Modern off-boresight, thrust-vectored IR missiles like the R-73 or the AIM-9X can hit anything within a 90 degree arc of their 'line of sight'. Considering there have already been trials of backward-firing missiles, there's your 'all-around' solution right there... And let's not forget the recoil and other stability issues. Sure, the AC-130 has a 105mm howitzer. But it's a huge, stable machine that doesn't have to deal with stopping in mid-air. And has a crew of 13 and will surely trump any currently-possible unneccesarily-mobile robot in sustained and accurate forepower.
Which brings me back to the point of how exactly would mobile suits be useful in real warfare? They just seem like a massive, over-complex overkill which doesn't fit any particular role. It certainly has more roles than an airplane or a tank would, but it isn't exactly the ideal solution - especially when there's smaller, simpler and better-specialized weapons platforms available at much lower cost.

Now, in construction though, I do agree. The mobility and long arms/legs etc would come in very handy in hard-to reach places - and it would be more convinient than a crane or excavator while being able to do more than either of the machines might be able to on its' own.
Not to mention, it won't have to fly or fire ridiculously high-recoil weapons, so there goes 90% of all the complexities involved right there

Otohiko: I value your opinion. Modern warfare isn't equiped for MS combat or anything of the like. As for the JSF (all varients), it can stop in midair and come to a landing or just sit there (yes, the prototype(s?) has (have) done it). Lockheed Martin's F-35 (AKA The JSF) most likely also has the ability to start flying again from a complete stop in midair, but the amount of fuel this consumes to pull off may be astronomical. Hell, midair refueling I've always thought of as extremely impractical anyway.
