yes, this thread may sound kinda stupid but im serios. why dont they show genitals in anime ? i can understand things like evangelion where the characters just have a bit of flat skin. which is understandable due to its rating. but why not in things like berserk which allready has an adult rating and lots of adult content ?

no actualy im not. having genitals in anime with such adult content and themes would give more of an impact than otherwise and make characters feel that little bit more alive. the bare human body can be a powerfull thing when used properly in an art form.

I watched ninja resurrection and wondered the same thing, they were willing to show the decapitated heads of two little kids, and that one part were the devil incarnate explodes from that one woman, yet they shadow out the guys nads, why??, I’m already scarred for life just by watching the movie, might as well give it a mature ratting and go all out, there was no saving that particular movie in any event.

its a lot like that in regular movies in which semi-big hollywood flick have you ever been able too see genitalia. female maybe, male NEVER

so its just the way the world is. its okay to have a guy shoot someone in the face as long he doesnt flash his ding-dong while he's doing it.

the artists take the time to draw them and then censorship is applied or otherise, genitalia's are just not drawn.

It has somethign to do with japanese pornagraphy laws, i think.

yeah, i thought of that. in japan, all "real" porn has to somehow cencor the genitals, otehrwise its illegal. but ive seen alot of hentai that show genitals so bold and proudly.

censorship seems to be only those things sold or hosted in japan. most hentai it seems come from japan located drawers, so they are censored. the ones that aren't would probably be hte ones that are exported out and hosted outside japan.

I have your answer.

As you know, Japanese society is very much based on values of politeness, and various social norms and traditions. One of these traditions is the idea that showing genitals is utterly offensive, and is not allowed by law. I don't believe it's related to religion, actually. It's just one of those cultural norms that is generally taken seriously.

Just as you might well see bootlegs; because it's illegal, doesn't mean it doesn't exist in the underground market. I'm sure some artists don't give a shit, and neither do some fans. So, they do it covertly...
