Put the clips on Video 1 and Video 2 on top of each other. Then apply the Clip effect to Video 2 and play with the Transparency options.

Or perhaps an easier way would be to simply use a garbage matte in Video 2 Transparency options. You have to drag those little handles in the preview picture.

*chuckles* This is so much easier with Premiere Pro's Garbage Matte... don't be fooled by all the people who say Premiere Pro sucks compared to the earlier versions. :D

(I did have to use that box with the handles in the Transparency window for one of my earlier videos when I was using Premiere 5.1, so I do feel your pain.)

Yeah, yeah... quit your PPro pimping. It's just a couple of mouse clicks anyway. :P

Use more layers and multiple copies of the same clips. Or create a still image with black and white stripes, set Video 2 Transparency to Image matte and choose your picture.

The manual is a good read too, you know.

Looks easy enough...now with Premiere Pro 1.5's 16-point garbage matte (why can't they just cave in and give me a bezier matte tool without having to pick up After Effects!)....I could cut Lain out easily enough, or just use the GIMP or (gasp) even MSPaint to do it....transparent effect on that clip, with some sort of transparent ramp effect (I think you can do that, I managed it somehow before), overlay a shot of the title screen shrunk down, looks like some egde feathered piano key on the side there, no sweat, whatever that colored thing is at the bottom, Title Editor...:P

Now, WHY I would want to do all that is beyond me....I'm happy just slapping Beanie Babies tags on all the toys with an accesible ear in Lain's room....
Life's short.
